interested in a Park Slope bath house spa?
would people go to a bath house spa russian/turkish/sauna style the Slope area?
I have been to the one on E. 10th in Manhattan and the newest one in Coney Island but it would be cool to have something like this closer to home catering to the locals.
Some of the proposed features: aromatherapy massage, lounge area, classes for spa products you can do at home, hot and cold drinks (herbal tea and champagne), a place for the kids kinda Co-Op style playroom--PS loves their kids!!!
I am scoping out locations to create one around here. Would people like this?

I have been jumping in the fountain in the middle of Grand Army Plaza. Is that the same thing?

LOL-so, that was you i saw in there the other day? didn't recognize ya!

OP.. you are likely to get some flippant answers here but in part it is because the idea of someone investing in this kind of facility in PS is outrageous.
The reason that the place on Coney works is because of cultural reasons.. There is a heavy Russian population in Brooklyn (largely in brighton beach) that is scattered and people are raised in to an appreciation of these baths. Coney Island Ave is pretty central Brooklyn so they get plenty of people doing the drive over there from all over Brooklyn. The population in PS is very diverse but I just can't see this idea floating here in the land of high rents. -
I'd go if the price was right! You should check out what's already in Park Slope that's similar. What would be different/better about what you're proposing.
In San Francisco, Kabuki Hot Springs is terrific. If you could recreate something like that here, I think you'd have people interested. -

I was just at Kabuki Hot Springs in SF last week, and I'll probably be back next week. Love it there (chelsea, do you know the massage therapist named "Sir Lawrence"? he's my new best friend)

I'd go if the price is right and the facilities clean. -
I used to hit up Kabuki when I lived in SF, too (shout out to the Inner Richmond!) and while it took me a bit to get used to being nekkid in front of other people, it was very chill and worthwhile. If there was a similar situation in PS, I'd hit it up for sure. Especially in winter when I want to curl up and die, a steamy warm room sounds heavenly.

That's the key thing: convince me from the outside, and from the very first moment that the facilities are immaculate--and keep me convinced throughout.
I have been curious about these NYC places, but hygienic concerns have (and will) keep me away. I've been to a similar type of place in Germany, and I loved it.
Also, convince me that it's a relaxing place. -
I would certainly go! To get my business it would have to have:
Fair prices...not outrageous "Park Slope" prices. Maybe discounts for multiple uses?
Childcare facility
Ladies only rooms/hours
I frequent a place like this in Miami and love it. I have wanted to go in NY, but aside from the one in Clinton Hill, nothing is convenient to home. -
Nope, can't afford it.

There is a much closer Russian spa than the one on Coney Isl. It's on McDonald and is called Sanduny

I've been meaning to check this out. Do you like it? Does it seem clean?

There's also one on Fulton Street in Manhattan. -
Subject: sauna turkish bath
thanks for all the comments (insights for both sides is helpful and I especially expect some wisecracks). I have researched the area and there are currently no facilities like this in PS proper. (which, of course, is why I thinking about this location). -
i would go if it were not typical "park slope prices" as another poster stated above. I think you are going to have to go to south slope windsor terrace or greenwood heights in order to reduce overhead

There is a great bathhouse in Ft. Greene that is cheap and clean.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but have been a few times. -
Oh, I had no idea! I'll have to check this out

I have a couple of co-workers who are crazy about Inspa World in College Point, Queens (although it looks like they are changing their name to SpaCastle). It is supposedly very clean and draws some of the Russian population from Brooklyn.

Been there, and didn't post it because i was hoping it was my secret. It is INSANE.

The "crowd" though is Korean, not russian. And it's not for the modest. -
the kid section would have to be far from the spa area - i would worry about people trying to bring their kids in b/c that's not relaxing. it could work, if the price was right! plus, people love the place on 10th street in the east village, and that place isn't sparkling clean - it's awesome but probably easy to have higher standards.
inspa is insane! love it, though. -

That pool at Inspa World is no big deal compared to the one in the middle of Grand Army Plaza. And nobody has a problem with my 8 year old twins [-X [-X [-X

I remember it being $30 for just the bath area. Give them a call to find out. From the looks of their website, they added a lot more "spa" type services. -

surprise!! Kids are totally welcome (and abundant) at SpaCastle. Children can go into the bath area only with a same-sex parent, and the pool area is co-ed.
Howdy, Stranger!
