Lunch Options

My roommate and I are those workaholic sorts (him more than me) who leave early, come back when the sun goes down, and don't really do much around the neighborhood during the day on the weekends. He's on vacation these next two weeks and I will be next week (though I called out today to be lazy...shhh), so what's a good place (new to us) that has a good lunch menu? We don't care how far-flung, we've got nothing else better to do for a change! 8)

  • I think my husband has lunch sometimes at Le Gamin.
  • There's this place on Vanderbilt called 'Soda,' don't know much about the place, but it looks cool enough...

Now, see: the operative phrase was "new to us" :P

So, anywhere besides Soda, Gran Castillo, Mitchell's, Wing Wagon, Franny's, and er, Subway and Crown. :)
  • I like MULE on 4th avenue on Bergen. Their sandwich was really really tasty. It's probably very far from you but it's worth trying.
  • I like me a good burger- I'd go to Burger Joint! well, if you wanna drag your ass to Manhattan. Also, I like Blue 9, but I think that it's kinda polarizes people...
  • If you want some culture and natural beauty with your food, go to the Terrace Cafe at the Botanic Garden. Mostly sandwiches, but they always have 2 or 3 great hot entrees...In the winter, they move downstairs by the various conservatories....
  • Press 195 has good pressed sandwiches. It is on 5th Ave near Park Place.
  • Elios. gets no love on here. great greek stuff. great burgers. great souvlaki. love the owner. love the fact that it replaced the nasty La Terraza on St. Marks & 6th.

and they have tiny bottles of cristalino if you want to have fun with your lunch.
  • City Sub, on bergen b/w 5th and 6th, also makes a damn fine hoagie...
  • Hitchhike to Sunset Park
    1. tamales oaxaquenos on Fifth Ave 45th St
    2. Vietnamese sandwiches on 8th Ave and 43rd - Ba Xuyen.
  • I'll keep all these in mind for next week! Today, I just went down the block and got some roasted chicken from 3Ds. I love that place.

It's on Washington right at the end of St Johns. They also have good patties (way better than Christie's), and I had a shrimp curry there that was pretty good (although not The Islands material). Their baked goods are also tasty. I had a piece of pineapple cake there that has had me craving it ever since, but I haven't seen it again.
  • On a side note, dont ever get a beef patty from pizza shop, no matter how fresh they tell you it is. Bad experience over the weekend..
