Good prices on pet products? (Park Slope beyond)

I'm going to adopt a dog soon and will need to buy a bunch of supplies at once. Unfortunately I'm not wealthy and would like to try and minimize the initial expenditure (and subsequent purchases). Can someone recommend a good place to pick up quality doggie necessities without dropping a ton of money?

I live in the south slope area, so proximity to there (6th ave and 12th st) is a bonus, but I don't mind more of a hike for some savings. Nice employees are also a bonus.

And if you have any places that I should avoid - like places you know that always are overpriced, I'd love to hear about those, too.

Thanks!

  • I can't remember the name of the place but the prices are good plus great selection. It's on 3rd Ave. in the teens or maybe low 20's. Has the appearance of a wholesaler. They had a dog brush that was homemade that works on my dogs long hair. Sort of rectangular with short soft wire but this one was really big.
  • It's on 25th and 3rd. I can't remember the name of it now either but that's where I go for all the mutt's needs. His prices aren't over the top and they deliver.

Great prices on large-scale food purchases. Delivery too!

On Seventh Ave, the place near you is good, the place further south I don't care for.
