Liquor Stores — Brooklynian

Liquor Stores

So it's time to refill my empty liquor cabinet...I've noticed a couple of relatively big liquor stores on Washington and one on Franklin, but I still have not ventured into a single store.
What's the scoop for liquor shopping in Crown Heights? Is there any store with decent deals on beer and/or hard liquor?

Comments

  • The liquor store on Washington and Lincoln is nice: decent selection and reasonably priced.
For beer, the Brooklyn Beverage Barn at Bedford and Prospect is your best bet: they have a great selection of brews in a variety of quantities, and the owners are really friendly.
    Happy drinking...
  • If you can drag your ass to Costco over on third, you'll find the best prices in the city. You don't have to be a member for the liquor store. Great selection too. Is that beer place still across the street? They had some really interesting home brews.
  • Love Liquors on Washington/Lincoln is good for basic stuff. They sometimes have surprises in their wine selection, too.

Brooklyn Beer and Soda up near Washington/Dean is good for...well...bulk beer and soda. They have great choices and good prices too. Very nice folks to boot. If you want beer closer to home, Lincoln Deli (Classon/Lincoln) has decent six-packs, and United Deli (Washington/Lincoln) is the block favorite with beer (and ice cream!) selection.

Fermented Grapes over on Vanderbilt is good for fancier wine/likker needs. Awesome ladies whom I like to support when I can.

And no list of Brooklyn cocktail shops would be complete without a shoutout for Lenell's in Red Hook (Van Brunt and Coffey). It's a trek, but so, so worth it.
  • I second the Beverage Barn. Great stuff and really, really nice people.

For liquor I usually just find the nearest bullet-proof glass establishment around the corner.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out this week the Beverage Barn and Love Liquors, and post about my findings. May the autumn of booze begin!

I agree. This place is terrific, with lots of great finds.
  • ^^ Oh really? I'll have to walk on over there in the next day or two...

I've been buying at Fermented Grapes an awful lot, lately... got a really nice bottle of bubbly there the other day - I like that they're carrying at least a few grower/producer Champagnes and the staff recommendations are usually pretty good. I know, not in CH, but it's on my way home from work.

I agree. I hadn't been for a year because the selection was so terrible but I went in last week and the place was stocked quite well. Plus, the guy we spoke to said they are hoping to expand their selection and taking recommendations!
  • +1 on ceasar's shop. much better selection than anything on washington, fair prices, ceasar knows his wine and his wines-of-the-month are affordable and quirky. great shop for the neighborhood. couple it w/ the fact that the indian restaurant next door is byob... rockin!
  • On your recommendations I went to Ceasar's on Franklin to stock up for New Year's and I was really impressed with his selection and his knowledge. He had some great recommendations and offered some discounts. I consider his shop a hidden treasure on Franklin.
