Website says they have wifi - http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/wireless/
And the library is pretty small if you haven't been in. I'm not a frequent user so I can't tell you for sure, but I doubt they have designated areas for phone use beyond maybe the lobby. -
Do you know if any of the libraries in brooklyn have phone areas?

Why not just use the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza? It's large enough so that you should be able to find an area to make or take a call on your cell-mainly the lobby area. -
you could probably take a call in the main lobby of the central library, but it can get pretty loud in there, so while you probably wouldn't be bothering people, you might not be able to hear perfectly.
as far as i know, there are no phone areas per se at the central branch, and people are likely to be pretty pissed if you tried to take a call in one of the quieter places. your best bet would probably be the area by the ATM at the bottom of the stairs or else just going outside.
there is wifi, though. -
To elaborate-
I work from home and am starting to get reallllllllly weird and stir crazy- I'm trying to get into a routine where I leave the house and go somewhere to work 2-3 days a week for normal 8 hour days. Coffeeshops don't cut it because
A) Its mad expensive to drink that much coffee all day
Its usually hard to concentrate
When I was at Uni my library had study rooms that has doors, I didnt know if any of the public libraries had those.... or does anyone know if any of the colleges in the city have libraries that are easy to infiltrate? LIU Brooklyn would be awesome if it had a library that didn't require a student ID (which mine at uni did not, you needed an ID only to take out books...)
any suggestions now that I've elaborated a bit? -
I'd camp out at the brooklyn museum (has wifi) and lots of nooks.

damn thats a crazy 1, but the only place i could think of for you was the bklyn library and central park lol... its a bit hard because you said you have to use the phone type often.
this is a cool/fun project..

there is wifi in prospect park you know. by the boathouse and by the prospect park alliance house near 5th street.

click on the location and it will show you a coverage map -
Willing to pay something for an appropriate work setting?

The central branch used to have phone booths on the 3rd floor just by the elevator. The old fashioned kind with doors that close. If you can get a signal in there, that would be ideal for calls, no?

Hm I'll have to check some of those coworking things. The problem with jelly (which I've done before) is tha I actually use the phone off/on all day (dealing with clients) and I hate to feel like im disrupting people...

You can apply for privileges at a university library, paying probably a small annual fee. Many university libraries have gone to allowing only library card/ student ID-bearing persons to enter.
