High Fructose Corn Syrup Get The Facts

So what are they trying to say?

not sure but does these commercials are coming out after the success of michael pollan's books have anything to do w/ it? high fructose corn syrup isn't bad per se, but it doesn't taste the same as cane sugar. it's just a lot cheaper to produce. and it ties into the whole "processed food" thing. that's my best guess.

She ate raw people in an episode of Buffy, so it's hard to take her health concerns seriously.

You're too stupid to know why high fructose corn syrup is bad for you.

High fructose corn syrup is to corn what the McNugget is to chicken. Unless you're raising a family of hummingbirds, there's no reason to feed this to your kids. Don't be cheap, give them real fruit juice instead. It's plenty sweet. -

HFCS is the shiiiiit! I love it. I buy it in bulk and put it on my food , in my food , around my food , store it next to my food.....
It's really tasty on eggs! :chef:
-
Don't eat it! It will give you three butts!
-
LOL!
Ok I'll stop! -
High fructose anything is harmful to your health. I myself always got migraines whenever I had anything containing fructose - - aka - - many bottled juice, ice tea and lemonade that isn't natural or organic, including Arizona and Snapple - - and especially powedered ice teas and lemonades. It really pays to pay the extra price and buy drinks without frucose and corn syrup. One really great ice tea is Teas Teas by Ito Sen - - you can purchase smaller bottles in many fruit and veggie markets such as Kims on 7th Avenue, between 8th and 9th Streets, and the grocery store one on the corner of Berkley and 7th Avenue, and if you can get over to Fairway you can buy larger bottles for $4.39 each -- it comes in All Green Tea, Green White Tea - Jasmine and a few other flavors - - the Jasmine and Green White are refreshing and delicious. They are great for those with diabetes as they contain no sugar, just green teas, filtered water and Vitamin C as an extra bonus.
Try it. The Knudsen juices are also very good for you. -

You do realize that juice is typically 8-12% fructose by weight? For comparison, Coke is 11% HFCS by weight. -

In all fairness to RMH, I pulled those numbers out of my ass. -

Yah, 'cause everybunny knows how good Coke is for you... Although the HFCS is probably not at the top of the worries there.
Fructose is not the same thing as high fructose corn syrup. Which I don't doubt that you know.
High fructose corn syrup is industrially processed poison void of any nutrients that should be flushed down the toilet. Or not. Who wants to kill the poor fishys? -
i do know that my dad -- a doctor who specializes in metabolic nitty-gritty -- thinks HFC is pretty rotten, but coca-cola is practically a sacrament in our house, so clearly he doesn't think it's gonna kill you dead. he does talk about studies showing that you can consume much more HFC than sugar without becoming sated, which helps with overconsumption.
my main thing is that it doesn't taste as good as sugar -- it's a heavier, muddier sweetness. for this reason, my parents always call to remind me about the arrival at stores of kosher-for-passover coke (no corn allowed) and to brag about where they've found mexican coke for sale in their town (still made with sugar). and the holy grail is still in their fridge as a symbol of lost purity: a 16 oz. glass bottle of pre-fructose coca-cola, with a battered and yellowed index card taped to it, reading "save".
the protectionist sugar tariffs in this country are bad news for lots of reasons, including the loss of candy jobs to countries where the price of sugar isn't artificially inflated. (this may sound minor, but chicago has lost thousands and thousands of jobs because the big companies move to south america.)
oh, RMH, you might also like Honest Tea brand -- they use sugar, aren't horribly sweet, and tend to have WAY fewer calories than many brands, as an added bonus. they're my favorite, not just because they give partial proceeds of one flavor ("community green") to the americorps program i was in. -

The caffeine in Coke is far worse for you than HFCS. Caffeine is about the worst, most misunderestimated (
) drug available unregulated on the open market.
As far as killing you dead- just about anything can do that. Water is generally considered a pretty good thing to drink, but drink too much, and BANGO! -
well, then the good news is that coke has WAY less caffeine than coffee, less than tea, less than a dark chocolate bar.
and you can have my dark chocolate when you pry it from my cold, dead hands, buddy. -

AFAIK, coke has more caffeine (but probably less total xanthines, particularly the much weaker theobromine) than dark chocolate.

per "serving", but not per ounce, i think, right? i can't be the only person ever to go a bit over the serving size for chocolate.
anyway, i'm pro-caffeine. it is a drug, and it has positive effects as well as some negative ones. i prefer not to get addicted, since i don't like withdrawal headaches, but i certainly appreciate its vascodilating effects when i have a headache. -

Coke = ~3mg caffeine per ounce.
Dark chocolate = ~20mg caffeine per ounce.
And I'll drink a 20oz of Coke, but I won't eat 20oz of dark chocolate! But that really has nothing to do with the caffeine content.sweet tea wrote: anyway, i'm pro-caffeine. it is a drug, and it has positive effects as well as some negative ones. i prefer not to get addicted, since i don't like withdrawal headaches, but i certainly appreciate its vascodilating effects when i have a headache.
Totally, I don't mean to dog it. Necessarily. But I _do_ believe that it was one of the most unregulated and underestimated DRUGS on the market. And the majority of people don't even _recognize_ it as a drug. -

I hope you're talking about fresh squeezed juice and not pasteurized or concentrated juice. They're just as bad as refined sweeteners. Everything is killed off and you're pretty much left with dead sugar water.

Not only that, but it is actually difficult at times to even _get_ regular juice these days. You have to look at everything. All this reading! Arg! Elementary school flashbacks. Most of the "juice" you see on a daily basis contains _very little_ actual juice. Yucky stuff. If you ask me.

I'm not sure Tropicana has the same heart disease risk that HFCS has.
