Doggie emergency room on Fri night

For all my complaints about the rates at Animal Kind, their staff is excellent. My pooch, Duke, got cut pretty badly on some glass Fri night (a glass slipped out of Hubs' slippery hands while he was doing dishes and shattered on the floor) and we rushed him over to Animal Kind. The techs were amazing with him. Olga, in particular, was his favorite. She got right down on the floor with him and he loved it. Dr. Black said he was so calm she didn't need to put him under, and was able to staple his leg while he was awake - this cut was down to the muscle. She said he didn't even flinch. That's how calming these people were with him. I'm still amazed.

All said and done it was $312 for the emergency visit, 4 staples, and a 3 week course of a heavy duty antibiotic for my heavy duty dog. He's sleeping at my feet right now. What a goof.

Thanks, Animal Kind!

  • I've had some pretty lousy experiences at AK, and recently switched vets after 8 years there, but none of it was the fault of the doctors. The docs are awesome. The set up of the hospitial-- in terms of how they schedule appointments and treat people coming in-- is awful. All of my complaints, some of which are pretty serious, are the work of an inefficient and inconsiderate administrative staff. Too bad. Glad to hear things went so well for your pooch. And it's good to know they're there, right?
  • Yes! It's good to know they're there if we need them. It was great to not even have to think about where to go or look up an emergency late-night place. That was a big relief.

I will say that I adore their vets and most of their staff, but I've had my share of complaints with them and I'm still touchy about using them as my primary vet. For ER visits they're excellent, and for that I'm grateful.
