I love Mozilla Firefox. Tabbed browsing baby!

  • I love Firefox so much that I recently asked people reading my journal if they had decent excuses for not using it. A few of them did. Others had less plausible reasons like "The guy who does our computers at work picked IE and I like to use the same thing at home and work so if I have questions I can ask the computer guy." Who has problems operating IE that aren't related to the horrible spyware that it unleashes upon you?

    Hey I had no idea v1.5 came out...installing...NOW :D
  • Im shocked by all the Safari users...you go girl..or guy.
  • I'm one of the Safari voters. I use Safari at home almost exclusively, occassionaly Firefox if the site won't display properly. Firefox at work for personal browsing and IE for work (because I have to, not because I want to).
  • Firefox 1.5 all the way! Custom ppc970 and ppc7450 builds from furbism.com/firefoxmac. If you're willing to hunt one down, check out a build optimized for your CPU, the speed gains can be dramatic.

Then, for added leetiness, get the following extensions:

    Fasterfox http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/
    - speeds up web delivery, can even exceed RFC specs

    AdBlockPlus http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm
    AdBlock FilterSet.G Updater http://www.pierceive.com/
    - remove or hide banner ads, iFrames, etc; great for conserving bandwidth and sanity

    Greasemonkey http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/
    - enable 'user scripts' that let you force the browser to change a site's display or functionality; a lot of the scripts available are pretty much crap, but the Page Reload and de-CSS-ify types are great

.. and I like the GrApple theme: http://www.grapple.net.tf/

Remember, friends don't let friends use IE.

Ohhh I love when you guys talk dirty :)
Just kidding - can you explain like you are talking to a 5 year old (this coming from someone who knows how to turn her computer on and can use AOL) 8)
  • Mmmmm.... Greasemonkey...

I'm also excited about Flock, but haven't DL yet because the current version just sounds so not ready for prime time.
  • OK. Firefox 101.

Firefox http://mozilla.org/products/firefox/ is an open-source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source web browser maintained by the Mozilla Foundation, but mostly written and improved by a very large pool of volunteer programmers.

It was written from the very beginning to be fast, secure, stable, extensible, and standards-compliant: all the things that Internet Explorer 5/6 on Windows is not. IE is one of the reasons that Windows is so insecure and problematic in terms of spyware, worms, etc.

So: on an Windows machine, use Firefox, no ifs ands or buts, go get it right now and use it and live a longer, healthier life. On a Mac, Safari is quite capable and stable, and on newer machines, fast; the need for using FF isn't as great unless you want to experiment with any of the many free extensions https://addons.mozilla.org/?application=firefox.

    Hope that helps.
  • Thanks - Im going to try this on my home computer see how I do. (Keep your fingers crossed for me)
