The New Monster Truck in your Hood — Brooklynian

The New Monster Truck in your Hood

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Sorry to post another stroller rant, but after 2 separate incidents, I must. Let me preface this by saying all stroller behavior has been covered before; this is about the stroller itself.
WHY ARE NEW PARENTS BUYING THESE CRAZY-WIDE STROLLERS?!
Even if parents were blocking the sidewalks 5 years ago, their strollers weren't these 3 wheeled monsters! They are so huge, it's almost laughable, except it exacerbates the already tense sidewalk standoff.
I've had 2 incidents with this same monster-stroller, so let me rant...
One lady left her stroller there for people to walk around, but the aisles were so narrow--we couldn't! And who would dare to move it themselves?! (This was in SuperSavers, I don't even know how she got in the door!)
Two: Lady and I are in shop, and I cannot get around her. She glares at me, and slowly rams me back into shop I'm trying to exit. :x
If Park Slope parents are so concerned about doing what's best for their baby--why don't they just carry them in a sling? It would make things better for everyone. Hypocrites.
ahh..thanks brooklynian! Now I feel better!
(and yes, I used a sling and an umbrella stroller with my children)www.dorel.co.uk/images/quinny.jpg

  • Better yet why don't they just beat their soft little heads with the nearest available rock.
  • It's not the stroller it's the person behind the stroller. Rude, plain and simple. I've had to move grocery carts out of the way because some people think they're the only ones shopping when they block aisles.

In the winter how many bodies do I have to step over in the kids section at B&N.

Don't blame the object, blame the person.
  • Forget the strollers...this has been discussed and they aren't going anywhere.
What about those converted pick-up trucks to tow trucks. You know the ones. Spiffy paint job, usually say "auto body" something or other. Are these Repo men? Are they ex cops? Why do they drive like a-holes? They speed, tailgate, run red lights...just generally agressive. Are they in a hurry to be the first ones to tow?

Seriously. Stollers are annoying but these guys are dangerous.
  • Just had to get it off my chest, y'all. I don't care if this thread is deleted.
However, I disagree with you eggcream, it is the type of person who buys this Hummer of a stroller. Conspicuous consumption made "cute."
  • chipster, are you talking about double strollers? Cause otherwise, they're not that much bigger than any other "high end" stroller out there, and I agree with eggcream, it's the parents who just aren't being considerate w/ others in a public space. Signed, parent who had a big stroller and was neurotic about trying to get out of everyone else's way every time she went into a small space store, but, damn, it made it easier to spend the entire day walking around the city!
  • My twins are grown, but I used to have a double stroller, the big one the running stroller with a over sized wheel in the front. The only time I smashed into people was when they were walking towards me walking their dog(s), rolling/smoking a cigarette, drinking hot coffee and texting at the same time.

Maybe they were not texting, maybe they were updating their blog.
  • No, not double strollers. Honestly, I have been on both sides and know how it feels. I was also self conscious about not getting in people's way. But these Honkers are just too extreme; NOT made for urban living. Maybe that's how they market it to "upscale" parents, but I wish they'd ship them all to Montclair.
    I think they're Quimby or Quinny--I couldn't post a pic.
I just hate when a trend like this takes off, and now everyone has to have one. It just won't work.
