Crime wave? — Brooklynian

Crime wave?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Is it just my bad luck, or is crime picking up in Park Slope?

Tonight I found all my hubcaps stolen off my 6 week old VW Rabbit (parked under a streetlight on 7th St between 6th & 7th Ave)...

4 weeks ago, had Iron gate stolen from apartment entrance on 6th St....

Uhg... I hate this helpless feeling...

  • sorry to hear that. seems like there has been a bunch of crimes in the area lately. so sorry to hear about your new car. the cops should increase patrols in the area
  • Wow, hubcaps stolen?? I haven't heard of that happening since the '80s.

Maybe we really are headed back to the bad old days..
  • Who has hubcaps these days?
That's probably why you don't hear about stolen ones much.
  • I'm guessing he meant wheel covers, not hubcaps.
  • Sorry, yes I meant wheel covers... and yes, who the hell steals wheel covers?

Walking around last night, I saw two other cars that had been stripped of the wheel covers as well...

Looks like it was some sort of operation measly theft... its a bummer...

Luckily I don't have to pay for the iron gate - thats about 10x the cost of wheel covers.
  • The iron gate has good scrap value.
  • I saw one of those "graffiti tags" on a pole. The neighborhood is really going to shit.
  • What's a wheel cover? My car has alloy wheels. No hubcaps, no covers, AFAIK.

    Alloy wheels...well aren't we fancy? :P

Wheel cover is a plastic thing that snaps onto standard steel wheels to make them look like alloy wheels. Sort of like a giant hubcab, except it covers the whole wheel, not just the hub area. Usually found on lower trim package models of lower priced cars.
  • Bike stolen this weekend.
  • 4 hrsemn.

Idle hands are the devil's workshop.

Ugh. I'm sorry. What kind of lock were you using? It would help me (and the other bike riders on here) to know how far the bike thieves will go in this neighborhood.
