Patsyt: Hopefully I am retired, lol, otherwise I am aol all these years. I know, I am bad, sorry. I wish I could go back to Brooklyn and will never stop trying. I am sorry I sold my house. My husband hated the neighborhood (Sunset Park). I should have kept my mother's on 20th.

Janet Horan, What block in Sunset Park did you live? We keep talking about Park slope and south Brooklyn, but about 15 + years ago the boundries were changed. What used to be Park slope was changed to Sunset Park. Sunset Park is from 17th st - 2nd Ave to 8th ave all the way to 65th St from 2nd to 8th Ave. The towers on 65th and 4th were changed one is in Sunset Park and one is in Bay Ridge, right next door to each other, but they spit them. The people from the Sunset Park building were pissed. Years ago Bay Ridge started in the late 50's- 58th St and 8th. Community Board 6 covered all of that. Who wanted to be called Sunset Park? Greenwood Heights never came to be, but Park slope, Greenwood Heights, South Brooklyn was a good selling point. When people asked where was I from, I'd say South Brooklyn/Park Slope. We were the forgotten neighborhood between 23rd street and 39th street. But the truth is; the neighborhood is very unforgettable to all of us no matter what the name is. I grew up on 21st Street between 3rd and 4th. Everyone there was extended family. My neighbors use to sit in front of their house and talk to everyone if they knew them or not.

Later on in years you were skepticle to talk to people you didn't know. When we came to Jersey everyone says hello you don't have to know them. It throws me off, I say to Jim, do we know them. I thought I was having a senior moment. lol

Jim and I were in stop n shop talking about Brooklyn. the cashier interrupted, that she was also from Brooklyn living here for 35 years. I asked where, she said - down, not using a name of area. Then she said 3rd Ave.. I said I'm from 3rd. Then she said 21st between 3rd and 4th. I said that where's I'm from. She mentioned all names I knew then we found out that her father and my father had the same best friend. I have met so many people that originated in Park slope.

From a neighborhood where everybody knows your name (familiar song)They knew What you did, and what you were cooking for dinner, and that was the way it was. In a way the neighborhood was your baby sitter, always watching out for the kids.
