Shooting at President and Franklin — Brooklynian

Shooting at President and Franklin

Kids, 8 and 10, injured by stray bullets in Brooklyn and Queens
Denia Kearse was hit in the shoulder when bullets raked a block party on President St. in Crown Heights about 8 p.m., sending dozens of people stampeding for safety, police and witnesses said.

"It was like boom, boom, boom - four or five times," said a woman who works at the Shanghai Restaurant on nearby Franklin Ave.

"Everyone started running. Some of the people even ran inside the store," said Hazem Alqotaini, 19, a clerk at the Franklin Deli.

Denia, who lives a few blocks south on Clarkson Ave. in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, was hit in the shoulder in front of 1000 President Ave.

She was rushed to Kings County Hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries. Police said it was unclear where the shots were fired from.

  • Subject: more info on shooting?

I live on the corner of President and Franklin. There is currently a news van and many cameras outside, and the word from the people lining the streets is that an 11 year old girl was killed from the shooting last night. Does anyone have more information on this?
  • everybody wanna be a cowboy
  • I heard those gun shots. It was like pop pop pop pop. And yup , there was a block party down there. I heard the music bumping for most of the day. A few minutes later I did hear the ambulance come down the street. I didn't know anyone got hit though. Damn , that's messed up. :(
  • I'm sorry to hear this
  • From what I heard the little girl is doing well. President street has always been a problem. I feel there are just a few problem streets in that area, I say more police presence on President and Union streets.
