New to prospect heightst- Dean and Bedford
Hey
May take place in this area I listed- not sure if its actually in bed-stuy?
Anyway, wondering if anyone could take a moment to comment on safety in this area and for any bikers out there- how is it biking into city.
Ridethecity.com says to take Williamsburg bridge- think it might take about 1/2 hour to get to Soho where I work- any thoughts?
Thanks

This is actually Crown Heights.
I would avoid Atlantic and Pacific between Bedford and Classon because of the masses of wandering men from the Armory. Luckily Bergen/Dean has bike paths! -
I suppose it is technically bed-stuy, FWIW, you'll find info in the Crown Heights forum though. That is very close to the armory, which is a large homeless shelter in flux and controversy. You probably will want to search and get some opinions about that, there are a lot of them. You could bike over the Manhattan bridge too.

avoid homeless shelter.

what's the bed-stuy/crown heights border? i had always thought atlantic, but i am no expert.

I thought it was Atlantic, too, but some reports (see wikipedia) say Park Place is the border.

Wikipedia as we know, is created by the people who read it. As a long time community member, I can say that only the oldest of old-timers still consider Bed-Stuy to go as far south as Park Place. In more recent times, communities tend to be defined around community planning boards. CB 8 for example now defines Crown Heights North and is separate from Crown Heights South which is defined by community board 9. Bed-Stuy is defined by community board 3 and stretches from Atlantic to Broadway, north and south and from Classon to Broadway, east and west. -
I lived on Dean about a block away from the Franklin Ave Shuttle stop, which from what I understand doesn't stop there any more, and that is definitely Bed-Stuy.

I go across the Williamsburg by way of Bedford pretty often. From where you are, it takes me about 15 minutes to get to the other side of the bridge. It beats the Brooklyn and Manhattan for accessibility from Brooklyn and safety. On the Manhattan side, it can be a little tricky getting cross town. Depending on how far west you are going, it could take 1/2 hour during rush hour.

If you look at old stuff or listen to old-timers, the Crown Heights / Bed-Stuy border is Eastern Parkway... Doesn't CB8 directly say that they cover part of Bed-Stuy, despite not being north of Atlantic?
ETA: The CB8 website says Weeksville, not Bed-Stuy, although is not Weeksville generally considered part of Bed-Stuy?
Not that it matters, purely academic y'all. (Hi MODSQUAD!)
