Kids Breaking Windows — Brooklynian

Kids Breaking Windows

I was walking on St. Marks Ave on Nostrand towards Rogers around 10pm on Saturday. There were about a dozen young guys walking on the other side of the street - probably between 11 yrs - 15 yrs. The only description I have of them is black - (the short) one with his shirt off.

Anyway, as I reached Rogers, I heard glass breaking. When I turned around I saw the kids running down the block with more sounds of glass breaking. I guess they were vandalizing the neighborhood. I saw, I think, the owner of the house come out looking all confused and distressed as to why the glass on his door (or house) broke.

I don't know if posting this could help solve the situation. Maybe if people start talking, something positive could come out of this. Being that they were kids, maybe parents should be more aware where their kids are at night.

  • Why am I reading two posts on the same night, one right after another, with headings like "witnessed mugging tonight" and "kids breaking windows" ? Must be something in the air. It sounds like there are a bunch of lost souls on the street tonight.
  • Four horsemen.

Lack of economic and educational opportunty causes social unrest and disorder.

    Will Obama turn this around.

We are headed in a scary direction.
  • Oh yea, I'm sure these kids were distraught after being laid off from Lehman Brothers and had no choice but to dispel their anger by breaking windows. Once they're all accepted to NYU Law School, I'm sure the "educational opportunity" will cause all breakage to cease.

Next: this is "typical" youth behavior

they do this because there are no community centers

"disadvantaged" people have no free will and are simply puppets
whose strings are controlled by external forces

parents can't be expected to monitor their children because to do so
represents the values of the dominant culture

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......................

I can't read if this comment is sarcasm or a reflection of your thoughts. The statements are very near the truth in my eyes. However, most people have no free will, not only the disadbantaged.
  • Wait, what is a "horseman" ?

It's a biblical thing (Christian, book of revelation,) the four horsemen are a sign of the apocalypse.

In a more literal sense, a horseman is someone who rides a horse.

  • Okay cause some of my shady neighbors say things about horsemen and I never want to ask, although my guess is that it means the police.
  • Yes, it means the police.

    Arg.

In fact, I'm on my way to see a man about a horse _right now_.
  • It doesn't mean the police....

A horseman is a man that rides a horse.

Don't get carried away, Brooklynleather. Chill girl- its all gonna be ok.
