Madison b/w Bedford Franklin — Brooklynian

Madison b/w Bedford Franklin

Hello everyone!

So my roommate and I (both in our 20's) just rented an apartment on Madison and we are very excited to move in. We are moving from Williamsburg, and it's like a breath of fresh air to have more space and live on a much quieter block. We are also eager to learn more about the neighborhood and the community that we are about to join.

I was wondering if any of you could give me some pointers or recommendations on supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants, bars etc. in the neighborhood nearby where we will be living. I understand it's a much more residential space, but any tips on cool places close by would be much appreciated!

Also, how does everyone like living in this neighborhood? Any blocks to be avoided? As different as it is from Wburg, we generally got a friendly vibe from the people around. How are the trains? We will be near the Franklin Ave stop on the C. Good train? Fast, easy commute into the city? Relatively safe at night?

Anyway, thanks in advance and looking forward to being a part of your community!

coming home at night on the train might be tough but i always see mad cops posted at the FA station .. but the walks not bad ...as far as places to eat & stuff lots of new stuff on bedford that i havent really tired.. but your close to dekalb (where i live) and its tooo many places to eat here !! take the walk on down.. stroll down fulton towards clinton also some good things over that way i'll try and map out a better lil guide for you

as far as the train ride i havent been on the train in years.. but the c is 3 stops from hoyt if i remember correct so thats 5-6 mins then 3 more stops and your in the city so yeah all and all 10-15 mins to the city
  • Hi and welcome to the nabe!

It's a pretty easy commute to the city on the C. I work in Times Square and it's about 40 minutes door to door. Check out this recent thread as well regarding the area around the Franklin C stop http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45381.

As far as neighborhood spots, be sure to check out:

  • Above, all cool East of Classon.
Great stuff just West of Classon:
Kush Cafe Fulton @ Grand, Brown Betty s/a, Green Planet Organic Market Fulton @ Washington, Locanda Gates @ Cambridge.

    Welcome!
  • hey everyone,

thanks for all of your helpful suggestions. :)
    really appreciate it!
  • The C is decent, could be a lot better. Runs too slowly at rush hour for my liking.
  • Welcome to the nabe!! I live a block up on Monroe btwn Franklin and Beford. If you want to grocery shop you can go up to fulton st, there's a key food on fulton btwn beford and nostrand. As far as cafe's and restuarants, there's a place on the corner of franklin and greene called bistro lafayette, cheap and decent food. My favorite is kush cafe on putman and grand ave. Most restuarants are on dekalb or myrtle ave so you have your pick of MANY places to eat and cafe's to sit in a chill. One of my fav's is the 5 spot on myrtle and washington. C train is ok, gets u to the city in 10-15 mins. The area is pretty safe, I've never had any issues in the 4 years i've lived here.
