Window Fix-it Person — Brooklynian

Window Fix-it Person

Greetings all - we're looking for someone to come fix a broken window. The glass is fine - it's the opening and closing mechanism that seems to have broken. Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks!

  • are these metal or wood windows?
  • Plastic, I think? The regular windows that are installed these days...or probably about 10 years ago.
  • Park Slope Windows and glass are OK. It takes a special tool to replace and put tension on the spring, Should take all of 10 min. for one window. Park Slope is honest but try to pin them down on time. I've worked with several different places in Brooklyn and for some reason they are all notorious on being late. Better yet if you have a local hardware store that you trust they might recommend a more local guy to do it. If you have the tool it's pretty easy
  • Action Glass has always been quick and affordable. Check them out at 718-756-8000. They take out the window and bring it back the next day, fixed. They haveconsistently done this for me for a number of years.

What do you do with the open window space in the meantime? Do they bring you a big piece of plexiglass or something?

Also, about how much does it cost per window to get the springs fixed or replaced? On those brown metal windows, for instance.
