  • TAS,

There were two posts and two different You Tube videos. If you want to make an egg cream, watch the first video. On the other hand, if you need to do a ceasarian section, see the second video. Got it ?

  • Hello to all of you, I have been reading this for a couple of weeks and it has brought back so many memorys.. For those of you who don't know me I hung out in 23rd st. park for all of the 70's but knew alot of people along 5th av and from 32ndst all the way down to 3rd st. I saw some people mension Germains on 5th & 15st. one of my best memory's was when I was about 6 years old riding on the little clown (very small) wheel (like a small wonder wheel) and does any one remember the chocolate milk I think it was called chocolate cow?.. and yes if I could fit in that ride now I would ride in it again.. LOL :D On 9th st. Avon movies I saw The Dirty Dozen, alot of Elvis Movies..Etc. Any way Bob Horan I don't know if I know you but you are right about 23st park it was nicknamed after the Testors.. I started hanging out there a little after most of them.. A LOT of Great!! memorys there and a few (very few) not so good.. all those that are reading this (and I know a lot of people are reading this but not writing) that remember know what I mean, That naiborhood was the best and like 99.9% of the people that lived there wouldn't change Most of it if they could go back.. I know I wouldn't.. Well I broke the ice finally by getting on. Terry Angello I met you the other day and your doing a great job and look forward to seeing every body Sunday.. . Vinny
  • Vinny I new you couldn't be quiet for long.See you Sunday
    Ann Marie
  • Still a "newbie" after all this time.......oh, to be a "regular". I feel like Pinnochio wishing to be a real boy. By the way, what was it with that Pinocchio, wooden nose growing deal. I think Sigmund Freud could have had a field day with that story.
  • Hi all,

Here is the receipe from Fox's U-bet Syrup's website on how to make an egg-cream. You can modify it for the type of seltzer bottle being used. My husband has been making them for years with U-bet and regular seltzer from a plastic bottle. He learned how to from his grandmother who owned a luncheonette here in the Bronx. They are delicious.

    The Original Brooklyn Egg-Cream
    Take a tall, chilled, straight-sided, 8oz. glass
Spoon 1 inch of U-bet syrup into glass
    Add 1 inch whole milk
Tilt the glass and spray seltzer (from a pressurized cylinder only) off a spoon, to make a big chocolate head
    Stir, Drink, Enjoy
  • Vinny,

Of course I remember the Avon theater on 9th Street. In fact, I remember as a little kid being brought there by my cousin Barbara (with my sisters also) to see the movie "Tarantula". She hadn't told us what movie we were going to see and I remember seeing the marquee with the name "Tarantula" and thinking "Why is she taking us to see a Spanish movie, I don't speak Spanish". We also went there to see some other crazy movie like "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians". Many years later, the Avon became an "adult" movie theater. Of course, I never went there at that point (well, maybe once.....but only for "research" purposes). Most of the time, we went to the RKO Prospect (saw a horror movie where they had a skeleton on a wire and let it fly across the audience at a specific moment in the movie - "House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price). Or we went to the Sanders movie theater. Later in life, I remember seeing Love Story there (the first time I knew what a chick flick was......awful, of course) though it was sad because around that time my father died from leukemia.
  • Holy crap......I just became a regular !
  • Carol D - I know Danny and Peter... They lived on 6 th ave, a couple of houses off the corner of 19 th st. I played ball with them when I was young.. Their dad used to hang out in Mike's candy store each night... Ask, Peter he will remember me .. !! I remember going to the movies with him the day I made my first Holy Communion.. I still remember the movie, THE BRASS BOTTLE, with Barbara Eden...

Nilda - I lived on 19 th st. across form PS 146, I used to hang out with Cisco, Jimmy U, Joey Aversano, Joey Davis..etc I knew just about everybody on 20 th st., The douglas family, The farleys, Pedro, Danny, Hernan Cortez... It amazing , no one remembers ME !!

Ivory - Elaine Banjany is my aunt, she is 8 yrs older than me... She lives in Long Island, has 3 grown children and is a grandmother 4 times.

Since I lived on 19 th st. all of my life, I do remember before the park was on 6th ave.. There were a bunch of stores, dry cleaners..etc.
  • MILIIE mail on yahoo waiting
  • lynjoy1948 - Elaine Banjany is my aunt, she is 8 yrs older than me... She lives in Long Island, has 3 grown children and is a grandmother 4 times.
  • By the way, as a serious note and follow-up to the last post, my father worked for Reilly Electrotype Co. on 44th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in Manhattan and I blame that job (where he worked with benzene and other solvents) on his untimely death from chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Wished I knew what I know today - would have sued those bastards ! There wasn't much information available to working people in those days regarding environmental hazards in the workplace.
  • The Egg cream video is good and there is even another one on the page being made at a ice cream shop. The ceasarian is horrible, LOL. Others, don't watch it.
  • I wasn't suggesting that anyone watch the details of the ceasarian operation......just wanted to point out that when I picked the first topic that randomly came to mind, I could go to You Tube and find a video - in this case, How To Do A Ceasarian ("C") Section. Guess I could have looked instead for "how to build a kayak".
  • VINNY,
YOU ADORABLE MAN. LOL IM LOOKING FOR A GIRL FOR YOU BECAUSE I THINK YOU ARE SO CUTE. LOL ONLY KIDDING FIND YOUR OWN GIRL!! TERRY ANGELO
  • BOB,
I REMEMBER YOUR DAD VERY WELL. YOUR MOTHER I KNEW BECAUSE I WOULD GO TO YOUR HOUSE WITH MARILYN. VERY NICE PARENTS.
BY THE WAY MARILYN....I FOUND A GIRL SCOUT PHOTO OF ALL OF US AND YOUR MOM. I MADE AN ALBUM FOR HE REUNION AND THAT IS IN IT. MY ALBUM IS NOT IN DATE ORDER I JUST PULLED PHOTOS OUT ALL WEEK AND STUCK THEM IN A BOOK. LOVE TAS
THANK GOD I DONT NEED A C SECTION I WOULD BE IN THE BOOK OF RECORDS IF I DID.
  • BOB HORAN -
sorry about your father's untimely death; and true - we were given limited information on many things in those days.

On a 'lighter note' - I too remember "House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price and the skeleton coming through the audience. That was one of my
favorite horror movies as a kid, and it scared the shit out of me. I've seen it again years later, at Halloween time when its aired- it's fun to watch, yet corney. But I love it. I remember hearing a rumor that some of the external shots were taken at Greenwood Cemetary. Don't recall seeing anything familiar, and didn't believe that to be true.

At the movies that day: My sister Phyllis, Rosalie & Dolores Zesarie and Patty Morelli. I remember it like it was yesterday. In earlier posts, on the
'old site' - I mentioned the RKO and Avon (pre/post porn) :) We were able to bring our lunch into the RKO for the Saturday matinee. Think we spent the whole day there.

    Take care....
  • OK CAKE IS ORDERED FOR 125 PARK SLOPERS. IT IS.........FRESH CREAM...DECORATED WITH BUTTER CREM FLOWERS...3 LAYERS OF SPONGE CAKE FILLED WITH CANNOLI CREAM...1 LAYER OF CHOCOLATE CUSTARD. ORDERED FROM LUIGI DOLCERIA ...HE IS FROM THE ORIGINAL ALBA PASTRY SHOP IN BKLYN FROM YEARS AGO.
  • NOW....SOMEONE JUST EMAILED ME THEY WANT TO COME WITH 4 OTHERS.
WHAT THE HELL WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH FOOD AND IF NOT WE WILL ORDER PIZZA'S LIKE ANN MARIE SAID. NOT MENTIONING ANY NAMES VINNY GUZZO. LOL
  • Anthony Umbria, I went to St. Johns but I think you are younger. I think the people you mentioned are younger than I am. I'm 57, name just sounded familiar.
  • I remember my boyfriend wanted to go to the movies and we took my younger cousin to the Avon to see some movie "Lorna". OMG, it turned out to be a soft porn movie and I almost died. I wasn't ready for that, never mind a 12 year old !!
  • If so many more people are coming, can you increase the original food order to accommodate 20 to 30 extra people???? If not, can you order cold cut trays from somewhere else?? Not Subway, lol, with their cheap meat, lol.
  • Maybe we better go back to some people bringing home made food, like trays of Lasagna.
