Why do we need 2 community groups? what is the difference bwtween yours and the Windsor Terrace Alliance?
-
The meeting of the 25th is being hosted by John Davenports group Concerned Citizens Of Windsor Terrace , who have been holding meetings for a few years and the WTA is run by Mike Brown and Lauren Collins who I just became aware of recently.
I am independent of any group and as a friend I advised John I would help him put an agenda together that represents the concerns of the community, which should be presented at his meeting.
As far as differences ,there aren't any, both groups are working for a better community. -
_ Traffic in Bartel Pritchard Square - I'm tired of feeling like I'm the Frog in a giant game of Frogger
_ A tracking system for issues that are on the border of both precincts. I brought this up very vocally once and only the 72nd was there. They said that there is never a game of hot potato or finger pointing between the two groups, while everybody else said that wasn't true. There were lots of examples of people being passed from precinct to precinct. There needs to be some accountability and partnering between them so people don't get stuck in this trap -
Subject: Community groups in Windsor Terrace
Thanks, Hamilton, for posting about the recent Windsor Terrace Alliance meeting.
As far as BrooklynJack's question asking 'why two community groups', the two groups are structured differently and have different focusses and I think, complement each other. John Davenport and I have spoken several times and I have a lot of respect for his efforts in the community and his history in pulling his meetings together.
I won't speak for his group but the WTA is set up to be accessible through an online community via our website and Yahoo group (and we have just added a phone line so people without internet access have a way to contact us). We advocate for issues including safer traffic, appropriate residential and commercial development, expanded education and child care, neighborhood beautification and quality of life. We raised funding to provide free environmental education for WT kids this past summer; co-hosted and publicized traffic forums with CB7 and with Bill de Blaisio to make sure people were paying attention to the concerns of WT residents; worked with the amazing buildings' code expert at CB7 to close down illegal constriction on Prospect Ave. earlier this year; pushed for traffic calming on some of the more dangerous intersections resulting in DOT traffic studies of McDonald/Terrace and Terrace/PPSW and hopefully, traffic lights in the near future; and other projects. We work hard and love Windsor Terrace.
And we are looking forward to John's meeting on Thursday.
Thanks for listening,
Lauren

i wish i could come, but i can't deal with the traffic on the circle--living on 15th street i feel like a bowling pin with the cars flying down the street.
sometimes i just want to get those pop-up cardboard people, like the ones of the policeon the side of the road? pop-up children, in the middle of the street, for drivers who speed down the street
