Would like to rent your tandem bike — Brooklynian

Would like to rent your tandem bike

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Looking for someone with tandem who lives close to park who would be willing to rent or barter for use of your bike on an occasional Sunday for an hour or 2. Trying to avoid making a day of it by going into Manhattan to rent a tandem- Would prefer to stay closer to home and ride in the park. Thanks!

  • I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the park rules state that it is only one rider per bicycle. You might want to check with park administration before you get too excited. I've read about some officious rangers in the park and I'd hate to read about you getting a ticket for having two riders on a tandem bicycle, but this is New York after all.
  • bristen's (on franklin btwn st johns and sterling) has a tandem bike for rent.

I'd never heard of that rule, but you prompted me to look it up.

    - No bicycle shall be used to carry more persons at one time than the number for which it is designed and equipped, except that children may be carried in seats securely attached to a bicycle.

A tandem is "designed and equipped" to carry two people, so I think it would be permitted.
  • What about a pregnant woman riding a unicycle?

Sorry I was looking at the "guidelines" on www.prospectpark.org. I am glad to see that the regulations are actually properly drafted. Still, nothing would surprise me though.
  • I want in on this action...my fiance would be willing to rent for our wedding. We have gone into a couple of Bike shops...there is one on Vanderbuilt that has the PERFECT side-by-side tandem bike but won't rent it and will only sell it for $3k!!

Any thoughts? (Sweat Tea - I Will check Bristen's)
  • thanks for bristen's recommendation!

Well... If that tandem bicycle idea falls through, I noticed in the park the other day that you can now ride a tandem horse... wait.... on second thought, I think that was just a regular horse with another horse's head stuck up its ass.
