Wine Tasting Club — Brooklynian

Wine Tasting Club

Anyone in the neighborhood interested in starting a monthly wine tasting club? Before you start typing all those flash replies, hold on. I'm not talking about tasting $30-$200 bottles and spending time writing down notes of such words as "plume", "barn-yard" etc.

I'd like to had the chance to taste different wines, of very moderate prices and compare them, with friends. Was thinking of wines priced between $10 and $15 and asking everyone to simple split the costs. If 6-10 people got together to do it, it would be quit resonable.

Anyone truely interested, let me know. :)

  • Subject: wine tasting club

I'm intrigued and think that sounds like a good idea.
  • Not a bad idea..
  • I think it might be fun. I always wanted to learn more about wine besides Carlo Rossi
  • Any excuse to drink. So long as it's not a swish and spit type thing! I still don't understand how a liquid can be "dry". School me.
  • I would love to do this! Always wanted to learn more about wines. Maybe we could do something in conjunction with the wine shop on Vanderbilt, or another place. I'd be more interested in tasting a large variety of wines, not only those under $15. Monthly sounds good. :D
  • I think this is really a good idea.

    Once a month sounds good.
  • Count me in! Sounds like fun...
  • I'm in (duh).

    Lets do it! When? Where?
  • right near my office in soho, vintage new york has a tasting bar where it's 5 bucks for a flight of 5 wines. granted, it's only new york wines, so they are all pretty inexpensive, and you can't learn THAT much from wine only grown in these parts, but it's cheap and really fun. they also have a restaurant with a full menu, but the tasting bar is great. i finally learned what "oaky" meant by going there....
  • Didn't Fermented Grapes try this also? I think it was a wine and cheese tasting night with [the newish store on Vanderbilt] (Im having a brain cramp and cannot remember the name of it for the life of me).
  • YES thank you!!
  • fermented grapes has a few wine tastings a month, I think.

  • Great idea - I'd love to do it - there's another wine store on fulton (olivino's?) that would probably be willing to host it (they have a nice dog)
  • fyi, this friday from 6-8 p.m., fermented grapes is doing a champagne tasting. err, yeah!

  • Subject: I'll host a first one

I'll host the first one if there really is interest. Maybe I can get Fremented Grapes to give a discount or host. Does anyone know the owner/managers?

Sounds Great! Let me know when it is going to happen!
  • I'd also be totally into this.

Now if only daveb were still here...
  • Subject: Host the first tasting

Great. I was thinking that between now and New Year's was too busy already for everyone, so I'll pick a date in January and let people know.

Please email me if you want to be invited.

  • Sepia throws a wine tasting every couple of months, the last one they had was October. Served some interesting French wines -- most people headed for 'tasting' and ended up at 'merrily sloshed.'

Anyway, some horribly colored and grainy shots can be seen here:

Next one's probably sometime in the spring.
  • My office is closing early to reward all of us suckers who made it in. wOOt! Who's going to Fermented Grapes and when?
