A new beginners service will be offered this High Holiday season at Congregation Bnai Jacob located at 401 9th street. The synagogue has undergone a complete renovation and the beautiful, new sanctuary is air conditioned. The beginners service will run parallell to the main service and will offer an interactive explanatory prayer experience that will leave its participants inspired and uplifted. It is geared for those who may not have any prior synagogue experience and are looking for a more meaningful High Holiday prayer service. For more info. Contact the synagogue office at (718) 832-1266.

  • Is this an Orthodox synagogue? Men and women sitting separately?

According to my husband, yes. He accidentally ended up going there for a holiday. He says "accidentally" because he's Conservative and they, well, weren't. :)

Yes. Congregation Bnai Jacob is a Modern orthodox synagogue consisting of congregants that encompass a wide spectrum of the community. People from all types of backgrounds are comfortable in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the congregants and Rabbi. One does not have to, in any way, categorize themself as "orthodox" to appreciate all that this congregation offers spiritually as well as socially.
