Musical holiday decorations -- yea or nay?
On my way home from the subway, I've been passing a house that has, in addition to lights and snowmen, a musical decoration that plays tinny versions of holiday music like one of those awful greeting cards. If I lived next door to these people, I would be plotting revenge. Can someone explain why this would be considered a good idea?

the attendant in the locker room at my gym has a singing santa that she likes to play for us... over and over and over again. I was almost going to ask her to turn it off the other day after the fifth rendition of rudolph, but that I thought that would make me too much of a scrooge.

I don't mind tasteful decorations, I can even tolerate the colored lights that shine into my apartment from the fire escape across the way. However, I definitely draw the line at continuous audio accompaniment. In my office (where only 8 people showed up today, me being the only one from out-of-state) this one lady has a clock that plays seasonal music every gosh darn friggin' hour. For Halloween it was something cheesy like ghosts and witches. Come to think of it, I haven't heard any jingle bells from her end of the office, maybe it's broken. One can hope! I'm not a scrooge, seriously, I have Christmas lights up in my apartment 365 days a year!

The lo-fi Christmas carol machine is the greatest thing EVAR. Tasteful, schmasteful. It's Christmas!

I once made a mix-tape out of the lock-loops at the end of dancehall 45s, so maybe I shouldn't participate in this discussion.

The final, endless groove that keeps the needle from spinning off into the label. It sounds like scratches and pops. -
How about living next to this person

(How cool is that though!) -
Has anyone made the trip down to Dyker Heights to see the decorations? I wonder how prevalent these carol machines are...
