Kittens Need a Warm Place to Stay Before Monday, Dec. 12

We desperately need your help ...

We rescued three small kittens from the Prospect Heights area last night. They were cold, hungry, and scared. They are about 6 weeks in age. I'm glad that we found them before the snow - they are really lucky.

We are going to get them spayed/neutered on Saturday but need foster homes for them for a couple of weeks until we can find them permanent homes.

If you would be interested in taking one of these wonderful little creatures temporarily into your home please let me know as soon as possible. We will take care of any costs associated with feeding, litter, etc. and will find them a home. They just need some warm, safe place to stay until we can adopt them out. If you are leaving for the holiday, we will make arrangements to care for them in your absence.

Please consider housing one of these adorable little kittens temporarily in your home. If we do not have a home for them before Monday, December 12th then we will have to put them back where we found them.

Thank you, please respond as soon as possible if you are interested. I will try to post some photos this evening.

  • Please dont put them back!!! IF you cannot get foster homes isn't there somewhere (like Hope Vets) who will put them up until you get a permanent home for them? I would love to help but have two of my own at home. Good luck and keep us informed
  • Subject: BARC

BARC in Williamsburg is a no kill shelter that might take them.
  • curious, where did you find them? (cross street?) i have been on the look out for the 3 stray kittens behind my apt. and have not seen them in soo long..

    let us know!

also, if you register, people might be more able to help via private messages if they are able to take the kittens... this way they can send email or phone number without telling the WHOLE board.
  • Thanks for the info about registering. I will do that.

The kittens were found on Prospect Place between Franklin and Classon.
  • Are they healthy or flearidden? I have three other animals to consider first, but if they're healthy, I can foster one of them, female please, for a while, say a month or 6 weeks. Don't worry about food, etc., I have plenty here.

Also, PLEASE, OH PLEASE do not get them spayed at 6 weeks! That's too early! They are not even remotely fully developed, and it can cause pretty bad health problems later, like being unable to hold urine in. IF you do that now, I personally will not foster one. Otherwise IM me.

The cats are out of control on that block. I wonder what happened with the TNR deal...

The rule of thumb for neutering feral/stray kitties is that they be at least 2 months old or 2 lbs. Vets will not do the surgery if they don't meet that standard (and in the case of these kittens, they did). It's not ideal, but it's sometimes the only alternative.

This was part of the "tnr deal." We trapped/neutered/released several cats from the s-shuttle station area over the weekend, and will be doing more on an ongoing basis. If the project continues successfully you should see fewer critters in that area over time.

By the way, the kittens mentioned above have found foster homes and won't be going back to the street. They still need adoptive homes, however, so please consider adopting one or more...

Thanks everybody for your concern and support!
  • Thanks for all of this information, Laura. I'd like to help out with these cats. I'm going to be mostly-unavailable this month, but maybe we can talk in January. That is, if you can use me...
