So much crime....

In the interest of fairness, and having recently posted a snarky comment about "kids who come by subway and never carry books", I want to acknowledge that in the last couple of days I've looked closely at the kids coming to John Jay from the F train stop, and most are in fact carrying backpacks.
While it is possible that the backpacks are filled with nothing but automatic weapons, I'll eat a little crow and opine that they are probably filled with books.
Things change. It's a good thing! -
I don't have kids and have always wondered about John Jay...why IS the school NOT filled with kids from the neighborhood? Why are the majority of the students coming from outside Park Slope? I'm not being snarky...I really don't know.
Where do the kids who live in PS go to school? -
PS kids for the most part do not go to John Jay or whatever sub-schools that are inside. Besides private school ... they go to public schools that are more competitive or ones with a special interest. Like Stuyvesant or Brooklyn Tech ... Brooklyn Latin, Midwood, La Guardia if you're in the arts or even ... long subway ride here ... Bronx Science.

Packer and St. Ann's are filled with PS kids. -
Also Berkley-Carroll (private) and Murrow (public).

Hmm, maybe because nobody wants to put their kid in harms way?
Does the mere presence of outsiders=harm? Or, maybe a better question is does open enrollment mean that the school will attract kids who are undesirable, (and I guess a separate question is how do you define that) and if so, why? -

Wow, our school systems have failed us. Do they teach English anymore? -

First of all, why are you yelling? I'm not yelling. Stop yelling and people will listen to you.
Secondly, stop writing like you have a learning disability. People will listen to you if you communicate clearly and in a commonly-agreed upon language.
Thirdly, please try not to be defensive. It sounds like you know things that we may not be aware of. If so, state your case calmly and (if possible) with a minimum of capital letters. People will listen if you have something pertinent to say.
If someone was stabbed, something went wrong. Please let us know the full story, if you know it.
Calmly. Coherently. -
you should be aLLOWED TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS if you want to, its not really "yelling" ive always been surprised how much a capital letter can insult someone.

Of course you are. You're "allowed" to do anything you want that doesn't hurt anybody...
Just don't expect people to take you seriously. -
It is actually a rampant gang of destructive midgets posing as teenagers. I would do something about it myself, however they happen to be vampires aswell and I'm scared of gingivitis.

sorry "moomin'" i forgot how serious the real posters on this forum are. btw, i agree with you that these high school animals are a real problem. There isnt anyone i know that grew up in nyc that isn't completely fucked in the head, esp. the ones who went to public school. kids around the city are maniacs, and I, for one, am completely scared of them. -

Having been a product of brooklyn's public schools from kindergarten to 12th grade (including John Jay) I am offended by your comment. -

Yeah, those PS kids sure are special. -
just to clarify - the John Jay building houses 3 middle schools, the old high school was put out of its misery several years ago. The middle schools that attract the most local kids (ie those who went to PS 321 for K-5th grade) go on to MS51 on 5th ave or MS447 on Dean btw 3rd & 4th Ave which are better academically than the John Jay middle schools
