Elizabeth Wurtzel in New York Mag
She got put though hell after Prozac Nation; which upon rereading is still timely! Her other books are also funny and smart; which makes me realize the power of being "popular." She ain't.
She wrote a lovely piece about David Wallace in New York Mag. this week. I would encourage you to pick up her books next time you see them out at a stoop sale.
I'm happy to read anything of hers. She was quite the hellcat back in the day, and I'm glad she's still alive to tell the tales.

ha! Yep, that's what I'm gonna start doing!I"m gonna have a whole blog about people I think should be famous; or are underappreciated. Let's see...Michael MacDonald from MadTv--why hasn't he ever been in movies. You? -

and this is necessary, why? -
Sorry, I wasn't aware my ability to express an opinion on your idiotic post was contingent on your deeming it "necessary."
-
i don't recall my post being idiotic, merely a statement of fact.

I never read Prozac Nation but I remember reading a piece by her in a magazine before Prozac Nation came out--well before--and considering writing a letter to the magazine to ask what they were thinking when they published it as it was so excruciatingly badly written and it seemed to be untouched by an editor. I mean I wondered what it was supposed to be about, it just rambled on so pointlessly.

I read it and wanted to hate her (photo on the cover- she just looked like a spoiled brat). I actually liked the book though, but have heard through certain circles that she's nuts.
But most people are just haters.... -
i know a lot of people who know her, who say she's really nice (albeit a tad nuts)
i liked prozac nation, but it made me very sad -

That's what I figured.
Thing I liked about the book was that she seemed like a girl you would actually know. She reminded me of QUITE a few girls I've known. The kind of girl that ALWAYS has boy problems, ALWAYS comes to you with them looking for advice, and then NEVER takes that advice and does whatever bat shit crazy thing she's going to do anyway... -
She does ramble on like a real girl..just like you guys said. As her publicist, I just want to say the rumours are absolutely true!!
BTW, who do you think is an overlooked actor/actress? -
I second the Michael MacDonald nomination earlier, for sure. "Look what I can do!" Amazing.
I also happen to enjoy Mark Ruffalo, although he's gotten a few big screen chances the past handful of years.
Eric Bogosian? Love him. I know he's on Law & Order now, but he's really leading man caliber. Saw him in a play a few years back at The Public - he played the devil. He blew my mind. -
Since this has nothing to do with Park Slope, I'm going to move it to the Lounge. If there was some Park Slope connection I'm just missing, let me know.
-
whoops! I don't even know what the lounge is...but now I will check it out!

That "novel" was so poor.
Poorly written, poor subject matter.
Why would I want to read about a crappy person I wouldn't want to know? -
I am sorry to say that the DFW piece she wrote seemed like nothing more than a reminiscence of running into him at a party over ten years ago and her own musings about being depressed. Not very insightful or worthwhile. The NYTimes wrote a much better more well researched piece about him.
