It's funny that in response to criticism over the originality of his work, Ellis G. give everyone here and at citynoise a lecture about its origins [the concept and practice of tracing shadows as an art form has existed for a very long time. (Do your research, it originated in France)... ZEVS... has been doing it long before me], but apparently he didn't think to inform the Times' Conrad Mulcahy of the fact. Apparently "brush[ing] up on the real origins of this art form" is something to save for detractors, not puff-piece authors peddling the myth that "shadow art was born" with him. There's nothing original about Ellis G. except a colorful backstory.

makes perfect sense. it is total troll behavior--prattle on about how original you are; when someone claims you are not all that creative, point out that you know far more about the history of what you are doing; continue prattling on about how original your "contribution" to that history is.

The concept and practice of tracing shadows as an art form has existed for a very long time. (Do your research, it originated in France in the 17th century.) Any attempts to take credit for the idea of tracing shadows would be as futile as trying to take credit for the idea of painting a portrait or photographing a landscape. Many people have these ideas, but it is the artist that makes them different, interesting and unique. I have read that you believe that I have copied your work, although I have never heard of you, nor seen your work before checking out your link after seeing your post. It is not my practice to badmouth any artist. it is important that we offer one another critiques or opinions, but to bash something and someone you seem to know very little about leaves the impression of insecurity. My current work was born out of something very real to me and I enjoy what I do and sharing it with others. In short, tracing shadows is not your original idea, nor is it mine- actually, I have learned that ZEVS (a parisian graffiti artist who works with space invader) has been doing it long before me and I assume, before you. He has his way of doing it, which I respect and admire. I have my way. And I guess, you have yours. In the future, I suggest that you take the time to brush up on the real origins of this art form, before you make claims of ownership. Thank you very much. Have a nice day. -

It's only been done once before, and that was for incessant belligerant behavior and personal attacks after repeated warnings froms the mods and site admin. Banning people isn't Andy's style.

perhaps you missed the day he posted like 50+ posts to the forum taunting emilym to ban him...? dont get me wrong, im not calling for him to be banned, but i think its clear that his behavior here has definitely been belligerent at worst and highly annoying at best.

You have to at least give Ellis points for internal consistency -- he tags the Internets like he was throwing up stickers... design once, copy and paste. Maybe he should put down The Art of Getting Over and pick up a copy of The Internet for Dummies.
