Live insect in sandwich at Fatoosh - indiferent server

I love it! I saw a roach climb up a wall at a Thai joint of 7th and we left immediately, but not until after I loudly said "we need to leave, there is a roach climbing the wall at our table!" People who were at the door contemplating coming in quickly left...
As for customer service, I think the guy should have comp'd you and your friends. In this economy, businesses can't afford to make enemies. He was being a douche and I applaud you for making a stink. -

I find this so hilarious. A roach crawling up the wall is outrageous to you? You people are clueless. It is obvious that none of you have ever worked in a food establishment in this city before.

Ask someone who has about how many 'pests' occupy the average restaurant, and I guarantee you'll either have to raise your threshold for repulsion, or stop eating out, immediately. -

Funny, I didn't realize you were present at the time of the incident.
No one over-reacted. If anything, the restaurant worker UNDER-REACTED and needed a wake up call.
For the sake of the argument, I'll assume the original poster's allegations are true.
Any restaurant worker who does not immediately apologize for live vermin in food (even though it's not the restaurant worker's fault) is declaring war by disregarding the customer's feeling. I've found live bugs in my food and the restaurant worker's sincere apology, immediate acknowledgment of how awful it is to have vermin in food, and quick offer to give me my money back or new food works like a charm. -

Very nice, I like how you twisted my disagreement with this particular guy's melodramatic, unnecessary, felafel soliloquy into me saying that "NO ONE" has the right to complain in restaurants, and should accept "ROACHES" (it wasn't even a roach here) in their food any time they eat out.
Very skillful. Have you ever considered a position with the GOP?

You can really be a jerk sometimes. Do you treat people like this irl or is it just the internet that makes you better than everyone else?
MOD NOTE: Can we tone it down a little please? It's ok to disagree with someone, but lay off the personal attacks.

While I would agree that a full refund of the entire table's money wasn't warranted, I can totally understand and agree with the reason it was demanded. Namely, because the server was being a wiener about the whole thing and the OP found this offensive. Rightly. Had the server handled it correctly in the first place, with an IMMEDIATE apology and gracious offer of a refund for the sandwich in question or a new one, the whole problem would have been avoided. FWIW.

BTW- we are missing key pieces of information here:
1) What color was the alleged roach?
2) What was its socioeconomic background? -
Tone it down??? How about making a point first?
The way I see it: there was a bug in the food (probably), someone was pissed about it, the server didn't care. Real good story.
Is there something I'm missing here? If there are some racial undertones then I say bring it on. Air it out, say something meaningful that adds to the discussion, make some waves (not necessarily racial). Otherwise, shut the fuck up (or STFU in the parlance of our times).
This whole post is about 29 replies too long... I'm trying to generate traffic for my GEMS post and all you guys can talk about is a damn roach in a sandwich... or you kidding me?

It's protein. In some countries you have to pay extra for that.

And by the way, how do you _know_ it was a boy's hat?Drunken Revival wrote: This whole post is about 29 replies too long... I'm trying to generate traffic for my GEMS post and all you guys can talk about is a damn roach in a sandwich... or you kidding me?
Isn't GEMS about Park Slope? Only yuppies and strollers live there, fuck that noise.Drunken Revival wrote: "Are you fucking kidding me?" - J. McEnroe

Someone has too much time on their hands. Let this thread die already.

Sometimes you have to pay to get bugs put in your sandwich. Galaxy Global Eatery in Manhattan near Union Square charges at least $11 for a cricket taco:
http://www.galaxyglobaleatery.com/
and thailandunique.com charges £3.99 for a bag of two Female Rino Beetles. Only the freshest Rino Beetles are selected, cleaned, cooked, and tossed in Thai herbs:
http://www.thailandunique.com/store/edible-insects-bugs-c-1.html
However, when you are eating out in a restaurant, you're paying for food as described on the menu, customer service, ambiance, and perception of a wonderful dining experience. So if you aren't asking for a cock roach sandwich, any waiter who serves you one is asking for a knuckle sandwich. -
What is worse than a live insect in your sandwich?
Half a live bug!
Sorry -
