Are there any neighborhood bars that have live jazz on Friday/Saturday nights?

    Don't I wish!!! It would be WONDERFUL if some damn bar had consistent live jazz every night.

    Puppet Jazz croaked and so did that Day and Night place on President Street and 5th Avenue that became Look Out, which just croaked today.

    Barbes, Union Hall, Southpaw, and BAM are some of the few locations you can rely on for consistent musical performances of any genre.

    Love Barbes. And love that it's all kinds of "jazz"
    Especially Mondays, with Chica Libre. Although the crowd can be flat even when the music is great.

    The new Puppet's was alive and kicking when I walked past on Saturday night. Looks like they're open for business.

    Yeah, it's best to check out the calendar before showing up at Barbes. They book lots of really interesting stuff, but you can easily walk in on the "wrong" night for you, musically speaking.

    Oh, and hate to quibble, pitu: Chicha Libre isn't jazz; they call their sound "psychedelic surf cumbia" which sounds about right.

    The few times I wish owners or promoters would post and boast about their businesses on www.brooklynian.com they never do.

    Since I heard nothing about them reopening, I went to their website and saw no new information.

    Any one know what their calendar looks like? What days and hours are they open?
