Baked Goods???

Hey everyone,

I've lived in park slope for 3 years now, and I have yet to find a good bakery for HUMANS! Yes, there is a "Puppy Patisserie" on 5th ave and St. Marks, but where can I go if I want a good birthday cake (I usually make my own but sometimes I don't have time) or a fresh loaf of bread or some delicious cookies or muffins?!

And what's with "Da Cake Spot" on Flatbush that put up their awning with a phone number and everything several months ago, but NEVER OPENED!? Give a chubby girl a break! This is torture!!

I know there's key foods but I want fresh, like from a mom and pop kind of place. There's an amazing bakery in Bay Ridge that I used to go to when I worked out there but I think its a shame that I'd have to ride the R train for 20 min just to get a good cake!

Can anyone help me? Thanks! :)

Talia

  • Cousin Johns on 7th and Berkeley has nice cakes or Sweet Melissa's on 7th ave and 1st Street have you tried them yet?
  • There are amazing (but expensive!) bakeries on 7th Avenue b/n 8th and 9th Streets and on 8th Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets.
  • i second cousin john's on berkeley and 7th. they are fantastic.

also trois pommes on 5th avenue is terrific.
  • I've seen both those places while out and about but never stopped in. I'll try them asap!

    Thanks!
  • Naidre's on 7th Ave and 12th(?) has decent baked goods. But I have yet to find something like a Magnolia or a Sugar Sweet Sunshine in Brooklyn.

I agree! I've waited in that Magnolia line for nearly 45 minutes in the pouring rain just for a couple of cupcakes! I don't know what they put in those (I'm not ruling out crack), but they are just soooo good!!
  • LadyBird Bakery on 8th and 11th/12th makes great cupcakes and lovely, homemade-looking birthday cakes. They used to be 2 Little Red Hens...
  • New bakery on 5th avenue and 6th street. Love their bread
  • Wow, I don't know how I've missed all these places! Thanks guys :)
  • Colson on 6th Av / 9th St is pretty yummy.
  • I think Cousin John's is super-yucky. It's more old-school New York, and I don't really care for black and white cookies and cakes covered in gelatinous goopy strawberries.

Trois Pommes on 5th is great... try one of the recreations of Little Debbie cupcakes. Mmmmmm.....

I haven't been to LadyBird, but I'm now excited to try it.
  • Perez i agree with you about Cousin Johns. I have lived here a long time (ok shoot those arrows!) and there was a time when they were the only choice. They had about 3 acceptable cakes (and they still make those!) that my kids came up with and loved but I don't want that yucky srawberry short cake or that mandarin orange thing or their overly sweetened carrot cake ver again, nor do the grown kids. there are great bakeries in this city and I am not sure that PS is the home of even one of them.

But.. if you differ on that statement let me know because I will try the recommendation.
  • Ladybird's Brooklyn Blackout Cake is the only birthday cake I'll eat. It is AMAZING.

And Brooklyn Bread, on 5th Ave and 6th St is awesome
  • DEFINITELY ladybird!!! it really is to die for. THE BEST!!!!
