you can find online tuners... it's cold and rainy out, why leave the house today?
-
Maybe the pawn shops on Flatbush, near 4th Ave & Schemerhorn. But I think I'd rather go to the Retard Center at AC. It's not soooo bad.
-
how about that place on 10th ave near 17th Street? I forgot what it's called
-
here's their info:
Jeff Bloch's

Ain't nothin wrong with needing a tuner! I have a Boss chromatic tuner pedal permanently attached to my pedal board.
-
theres a guitar shop on 3rd ave around president.
-
thanks, everybody. i decided to take BP's advice in the near term, but i'm glad for some options when i do go buy a replacement.
-
Don't forget about Mazzotti Music on 3rd b/w President and Carroll. Sorry Ezn, Guitar Center is that bad, if not worse.

If you need something in the realm of accessories (strings, picks, cable, inexpensive tuner) the uber-generic GC is the place to go. Mazzotti's has a nice selection of gtrs, but those price tags confuse me: Am I looking at a guitar or a used car? You want HOW MUCH?

Don't forget Maggio's on 18th Avenue & New Utrecht. They've been around forever and know their stuff.

What is so wrong with Guitar Center? As long as you know what you want, no problem with them. Though, I would recommend mazzotti's.

afaik mazzottis, jeff bloch ,the pawn shop (gem?) and GC are it for local generic stuff.
norms music on kings highway is great and just a wee bit of a drive.
theyll take the time to explain nuances about the equipment youre buying,
instead of just trying to close the deal and get their commission.
for major purchases like a new $2000 instrument, or a PA or what have you this is rather important. They also gave me a better return trading in used equipment on new purchases then other stores offered.
maybe i just got lucky i dunno.
but if youre just looking for a plain ole tuner just go to GC and be done with it. -
I can't help with a small item like a tuner, but check out my online store for bass guitars, Daisy Rock guitars for girls, and other items.

I don't like the piped in metal, goofball salespeople and that all guitars on the wall aren't set up and have obvious problems (missing knobs, are filthy, dings, etc) that don't get dealt with. Their pricing can also be confusing - retail price is pushed and it's up to you to break them down.
There's also the whole argument that superstores like GC kill off local stores carrying similar merch. -
Sadly, every electric guitar I've bought over the last half-decade was an online purchase. The 'mom and pops' may have better service and take slightly better care of the instruments they sell, but their prices are prohibitive as well.
These days, unless I'm getting strings, picks, cables, etc. I'm rarely setting foot in a guitar store--chain or otherwise. -
