Taaffe Place - Is it a good place to live?

The only thing I know about Taffe is Sputnik- which is a cool spot.
As for the nabe- it's right near some pretty rough projects IMO. Just got to keep a watch out at night. You might get a little hassled when hitting the bodega at night. -
There was a shooting in front of Sputnik a few weeks ago. And just so you know, the precinct a block away deals with crimes going the other way, the precinct that deals with responding to crimes on Taaffe place is several blocks away. This is coming from a friend who works at Sputnik.

The apartments seem so expensive to be in Bed-Stuy. Went to a party at Sputnik a few weeks ago and SEVERAL people's wallets/cell phones were stolen. Sigh.

I went to look at a place on Willoughby at Taffee. It would have been great to be so close to all the cool spots not far down Willoughby, but that particular building just had too many people meeting their drug dealers out front. I don't know if this girl was just naive, but damn! I guess she wasn't worried about getting busted. A little subtly when accepting your pot, people.

Wow. Well so far, not so promising. Maybe I should take a walk down that way and check it out. What about the management - Alma Realty? What have you heard of what the price range is for a 1 bed or studio? Has anyone here ever successfully negotiated a lower rent in the past or where you are currently living?

Um, yah. There have been some complaints and lawsuits reported. Do a search. Possibly include Jewish Hospital in said search. Here is a post about the specific property you are interested in, FYI:kristina wrote: I've walked by that building before and noticed it is owned by Alma Realty, just wanted to warn you if it isn't too late... I lived at another location they owned a few years ago over in Bed-Stuy, called taffee pl. lofts. Anyway, the basement (which was part of out apartment) flooded all the time-they never fixed it. If we harassed them enough some poor guy would come and mop it up, but that's the best we ever got in a whole year. it damaged some furniture and belongings, we learned not to even use that room. they promised to build walls before we moved in (never happened). All the fixturing was really poor quality, walls were thin and the management was crap. They give a load of run-around with any call and were never timely with responses. It took 6 months to get security deposit back (which I did, in full). It was a pretty rough year.

My ex lives there; I never heard him complain about the management, and I never felt unsafe when I went there to visit him (and I did a lot).
The biggest complaint I heard from him about the place was about the weird way you had to pay for the washers and dryers in the basement (you have to use a paycard that they also sell at a vending machine in the lobby, but you can only buy a card in increments of five bucks, so when he was down to only one dollar on his card he had to buy a whole new card rather than only putting two bucks on the card he had).
Howdy, Stranger!
