Shooting New York/Lincoln 10/08

Detective came to my door around 9 am this morning asking if I heard anything last night. Yes I did, 2 gun shots around 5 or 6. He confirmed a shooting on the corner of New York Ave and Lincoln Place between 5:30 and 6.

  • That's horrible! Everyone okay?
  • Shooting 857 Lincoln Place
    Lincoln Pl & Nostrand Ave
    Brooklyn, NY
10/8/2008 5:46 a.m.BROOKLYN *SHOOTING* LINCOLN PL. X NOSTRAND AVE. PD O/S WITH A CONFIRMED MALE SHOT
  • yeah i saw that too.
  • Subject: shooting

Unfortunately the man died. According to one of the cops this am, it appears that the shooting was over his car.
  • Good grief.
  • Oy vey. Meaning, someone wanted it and he refused to give it?
  • The shooting victim was a NYC Sanitation worker, off duty at the time. Nobody gets shot for no reason, there is more to this story, keep us informed.
  • A friend of my son lives on the block. He claims the victim was just a regular guy who hangs out on the corner with the rest of the block.
The car involved was a Cadillac Escalade according to my son's friend. Sounds like another good reason to avoid gas guzzling SUV's.
  • Source:1010 WINS:

"An off-duty Sanitation worker was fatally shot in the chest near 857 Lincoln Place in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn around 5:30 Wednesday morning.

Thirty-two year old Edward Hunt, who lived on the same block on Lincoln place, was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say a suspect, wearing blue jeans and white sneakers, ran away from the scene.

The victim worked at the Manhattan District 6 garage and was appointed on July 10, 2000.

Hunt worked 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and was scheduled to work Wednesday morning."
  • Damn, I wonder if he was on his way to work. ...a car jacking scenario?

I'm usually not as far East as Nostrand ...what's this area like at that time of the morning? Is this a known drug corner? ...a drug buy/sell gone bad scenario?
  • I think he was on his way to work(6:00am-2:00pm). His garage was on West 30th St,12th ave. I hope they catch this lowlife and get him off the streets. They gave a story on eyewitness news just a few minutes ago,so sad. His SUV was partially out of the driveway into the street.
  • This is horrible.
  • Didn't see the part about him living on the same block as he was shot until just now.

...sounds like car jacking. ...the cops will catch the shooter, he was with too many people. Somebody will snitch or leave something behind.

There are quite a few residents of this city that would disagree with you.

How about the 9 year old Shamshawn Kelly who was shot i/f/o the Weeksville Houses in August? Maybe the kid that was shot in a park on Bergen St behind the 77? Maybe Carol Simon who was shot and killed on Eastern Pkwy? Talvin Alves, 16, was looking through his Bushwick apt when he was shot and killed a year ago...
  • So what is your point? Those were isolated incidents. Most likely the victim knew his killer...

My point is that you were ignorant enough to say that nobody gets shot for no reason.
  • According to the Daily News he was shot when he got out of his car to close the gate to his driveway. Probably a mugging gone wrong. This is not a drug corner, and most of NYA is pretty quiet these days. Sounds like he was just a hardworking guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. My heart goes out to his mom.
  • There is a surveillance camera on the building on the corner of New York and Lincoln. Maybe the police can use that to gather some clues.
  • Well nothing was taken, his wallet and cell phone were still on him.

Maybe the shooter panicked and ran.

  • You know, I'm not to far from 32, it is ashame that these young men are losing their lives for foolishness. I am not an advocate of violence in no way what so ever, but when I was coming up i've seen a few fist fights and all these guys are alive and kicking. I wish the young black community could learn to talk to each other or settle their beefs the old fashioned way fisticuffs or over a beer.
  • People who go around carrying guns can't or are afraid to fight hand to hand. Once they catch this guy he will have to learn to fight the real way in state prison.

Yeah but aren't those incidents the result of stray bullets? Those kids weren't the intended targets.

I think as far as the purposeful shooting of innocent victims...it happens every once in a while but not all that often. Usually there is some sort of beef involved...
  • manic stated that "nobody gets shot for no reason." Let's not twist around what was said. Those people got shot for no reason! They are innocent victims. As you state sneaky flutes, they were shot as the result of "stray bullets" which would mean that they were shot for no reason.

I put "stray bullets" in quotations because I don't agree with the concept of "stray bullets" for the most part. This bullets did not just get up and shoot themselves. Every one of these bullets were shot as a result of a person willfully and purposefully squeezing the trigger of a firearm. If a firearm was accidently discharged by a law abiding licensed gun owner then, maybe, you could call that a stray.
  • Right, but the issue here is intent. The perpetrators in those examples you cited did not intend to shoot those children. They were aiming at someone else.

I just think the point that manic was trying to make is that very rarely are innocent victims intentionally shot by someone with no motive. That's all.
  • Thank you sneaky flutes, you hit the nail on the head.
  • Which is alot different from saying that all gunshot victims are shot for a reason.
  • ...Uh

Have you ever tried thinking critically or do you take everything at face value without bothering to analyze, interpret or put things into context?
