I loved the Milk one!
Yes, you have a valid point my friend. But let's not forget the times he's come in a helped our dumbasses when we've been all "OMG what happend on st John's etc.."
That said... I'm moving on. There's work to be done, actual work work... -

This would be a KWAC only if he was to claim that I would be at risk of harm given such stats, despite my boring, unaddicted, lifestyle that gets me home by 11.
...this just shows he can cut and paste a link. -

Yes, until we all get Comstat access, we can be helped (subjected to?) KWACs fascination with it as a tool that uniquely allows him to inform us regarding current events, and/or scare us into believing that we are all at equal imminent risk of harm.

On a related topic, is Curmudgeon a verb? Can one Curmudgeon?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curmudgeon.
Do you think KWAC's icon status on Brooklynian should result in him being added to the wikipedia list? -
Whynot I'm sensing some serious anger issues here, you should just let us know how you really feel. Beathe, in with the good, out with the bad. You'll be OK kiddo!

Likewise, although this actually KWAC typing, he is not "KWACing" in this instance.
Anyone can KWAC.
And KWAC does not always KWAC. In this instance, KWAC may be mamacita-ing: The act of telling people they need to chill, get a life, and be nice. -
I will be available for autographs for the Compstat book release party at Police Headquarters.

As I've said, KWAC is The Man!
Congrats.
I think the only term we've codified before this is "gentriconfrontation", and it isn't associated with a particular poster.
"Wack Peen" and "Is there ham in that cooler" are also classics. Do let me know if I left anything out. -
Not to pull another KWAC but..........
Person 1: Is Crown Heights Safe?
KWAC: Sure it is, except for the guy that got shot this morning at Lincoln Plc-Nostrand ave
Person1: Oh really? I thought you only made up statistics and Facts from the 80's. Thanks for the helpful information!
KWAC: No problem and educated gentrifier is our best customer
Person1: Oh BTW, that whynot character was so wrong about you, he must be a pretty angry guy! -
Actually, he and Mrs. Why Not are pretty pleasant and friendly!

Angry? This has been great fun. I don't know where you get the idea that I've accused you of making up incidents ...as far as I know, all of the incidents you post are true.

My issue is more with the effect of the posts. ...people think that they are at risk because a crime occured on thier block. Sometimes the crimes you reference are ancient, causing people believe there is still a problem when there is not. Other times the crimes occur to people who are clearly up to no good (drug dealer getting shot, for example), causing people to believe in error that they are at risk when they are not. I propose that this behavior be defined as KWACing. I think this is how the term has been used/created/evolved.
Does KWAC spend all his time KWACing? er, not to my knowledge. ...I'm not sure whether he refrains from more public displays due to the influence of nuns, but know thats part of what stops me.
There seems to be confusing regarding the term. An instances in which someone verifies whether a specific recent crime or incident took place should not be considered KWACing.
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46052.
This is good info. ...even cops with white shirts would agree this is a "good use of compstat".
Unfortunately, crime in Prospect hgts and Crown Heights clearly is alive and well. http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46059
And, I think it is good that the Gentrifiers are fully informed that they are not in the midwest. Clearly, one can do things to reduce their risk: Remaining sober, being aware of my surrounding, leaving my IPOD at home, and generally avoiding bored unemployed youths has personally served me very well.
My fear is that all of this talk of crime will cause people to think that they are always at risk. ....causing them to stay inside, which simply causes more crime because then only criminals go out. ...it would be shame to see compstat used in this manner. The white shirts would not like it. Speaking of which, when's that book party? I've never seen Police Plaza. ...and, uh, will Victor be there?
P.S. My all time favorite post of KWAC's: "It's pretty funny that you're the drunk animal pissing on the street, and yet you call the Cops "piggies"." KWAC July 3, 2008.
A KWAC classic, but not an example of KWACing ...its an example of PWN3D!
...it is important that we do not confuse the two terms. -
Agreed that Crime information shouldn't be used to deter people from moving into an area. However, being educated about a neighborhood can only help folks be more vigilant. Prospect/Crown Heights of today is very different than it was 10 years ago and my experiences and opinions are based on that time span.

Ok, as the owner of the term "KWACing", I request that you stipulate how old a crime must be before referencing will be considered KWACing.
10 years?
5 years?
Ditto, can it be labelled KWACing if it references a crime which was:
commited by a person known to the victim?
committed during the course of a drug transaction?
Referencing crimes that occured in the above circumstances would be likely to more "scare" than "inform" the average gentrifier, right? ...and should be considered KWACing. (and should accompanied by Victor's picture)
I propose that a gentrifier getting mugged for his IPOD because he walked home intoxicated from Franklin Park at 1AM should not be considered KWACing. It would be considered information. ...perhaps information that some folks will never internalize. -
I think you a wuss if some statistics 'scare' you. Informed is a better term. If I was KWAC'd I'd be informed and perhaps more wary, but not scared of the news story/statistic....
wait, forget it, I have no idea what I'm saying anymore..... damn that wine last night! -
I'll admit it, I just wanna post Victor's picture as often as I can.
-
Writing off an incident because it didn't happen today, is a Copout, the fact of the matter, is that Crown/Prospect Heights is comparitively a more dangerous place to live than some other Brooklyn neighborhoods. With that being said, it's quite clear that I don't have to post archaic criminal occurences since this board always seems provide us with new victims on a daily basis.
