Brooklyn take out taxi — Brooklynian

Brooklyn take out taxi

I saw this in the archives of the Bed Stuy Blog. http://www.brooklyntakeouttaxi.com/Home_Page.html

Apparently they will pick up dinner for you from restaurants that don't deliver and deliver it to your house for a $5- $10 fee...

anyone tried this?

  • haven't tried it yet but I did email a bit with the woman who started it, she seemed really nice and excited. I'm gonna have a car until the end of the year so I probably won't need it any time soon, but early next year, definitely plan on giving them some business! definitely post back if you try them out.
  • What a great idea.
  • They do this in Long Beach, out on LI with great success. That cab will actually go anywhere in the area and pick up and deliver anything you want.

We used to order food from the deli and wine from the liquor store and get it delivered right to us on the beach. Heaven.
  • A buddy of mine started a business like this in AZ around ten years ago. He called it "We Fly, You Buy" - clever, huh . Anyway, he worked with local restaurants in order to get a discount on the food and that way he made money on the food bought, and on the delivery charge. They were like "featured restaurants" and got abbreviated menus in his advertising in return.
  • I tried to Take Out Taxi last night and it was great! I asked her to pick up food from a restaurant that wasn't on the list on her website (Fulton Thai), and she was happy to pick it up. The delivery fee from Fulton Thai (Fulton btwn Clinton and Vanderbilt?) to my place on Madison and Marcus Garvey was $7. The food was delivered in about 20 min. Not bad at all. I'll definintely use her again.
  • This is amazing. I wonder if they would go other places, like if you were sick and needed a dozen cans of chicken soup or something.

I wonder if NYC Pet delivers to Crown Heights?

are you to pay the delivery charges AND tip? just wondering...
  • didn't seem like the restaurant choices seemed like much. do i really need someone to deliver my Popeye's or Applebee's to my job? nice effort, though.

Applebees and Popeyes? Were those on the list? I've gotten them to deliver to me twice and both times were from places that weren't on the list at all (Fulton Thai and Joloff). I just asked told her where I ordered from and she picked it up. But this list on the website is:

    Cafe Lafayette
    Chez Oskar
    Epoca
    Habana Outpost
    ici
    Kum Kau
    Loulou Restaurant
    Maggie Brown
    Olea Mediterranean Tavern
    Pequena
    Red Bamboo Brooklyn
    Rice
    Scopello Restaurant Bar
    Thomas Beisl
    Zaytoons

Hi Gtrain.... I tipped her, but I suppose you don't have to? The service itself was $7 each time.

yikes! 7 bucks + cost of food + tip? i like to treat myself out from time to time but to me, this is definitely a luxury service. i'm on a budget, yo. :(

Very true. It does add a good $10 to your bill. The 2 times I've used her I was ordering with at least 2 friends, so we each had to pay like $3 for the service, but if it was just 1 person ordering it would be pretty steep.
  • uh, if someone is going from their home (or workplace), driving to the restaurant of your choice, picking up the food, and driving it to you...tipping is certainly expected!!
