my opinion of those "we want" list is what "we want" seems to greatly differ from person to person.
i am all for giving places a chance, but playa cabana bar sounds like it will last about 2 seconds.
look through the hundreds of threads to see what people in this neighborhood want. we want vietnamese, we want GOOD indian, we want brick oven pizza...the list goes on...
it's just such a shame they aren't paying attention since as was said, it IS such a great spot...
so is it "playa" in spanish, or "playa" in english? the "playa's cabana bar" sounds kind of funny.
anyways, that location fails because there's been a subpar restaurant in it each time. i don't even remember pre-Bibi's anymore, but that was no good. Night and Day looked overpriced, boring, and stupidly pretentious. as nice as Josh Cohen mom was/is/is-she-even-still-there as Prospect Perk, Biscuit was good for about its first two months on Flatbush, and then sunk to god-awful at both locations. Lookout Hill didn't have a chance after that, even though everyone I spoke to said it was better. I don't think you just go and open a BBQ joint. You need to be really damn good at it for it to work.
Lobo-like anomalies aside, places are successful in this 'hood when they serve good food, at good prices, with good service and. Something called Playa Cabana Bar better bring their best game, because there's already a place serving good tropical drinks and casual pan-latin food a few blocks away packing them in six nights a week. -

i think if someone with an already established brand came and set up shop there, it would be a huge hit.
like nicky's vietnamese sandwich shop. although i think that this particular space is too large for something like that... -

Yeah, why can't Park slope have a small Independent theater?
I've always wanted to open a theater... almost exactly how you described it (with a liquor license).
The problem, I believe, is economics. Undoubtedly, the largest cost for any new business in going to be rent. As rent is a function of sq. footage and the nature of theaters demands such spacious luxuries... well, the economics just don't add up.
My estimated maximum capacity for any theater would be 2 screens, $12/person, 25 people in each theater, 3 showings/day, 20 days open per month. This pockets you $36,000 of top line revenue at my estimated best case scenario/maximum capacity. Now take out rent, utilities, employee expenses... oh, and Hollywood flicker doesn't come cheap.
Theaters, as an entertainment option, are falling at the hands of the home theater, Ipod, internet, and other such devious and efficient message delivery mechanisms of the 1990s. -

i think it's $11. it's a very large sandwich and is more of their own banh mi variation but it tasted excellent i thought. -

The place is open and it is called Bussaco. It does not look "Franny-like" to me, but it sure sounds good. -
Looks interesting. Should, hopefully, compete well with places like James, Rose Water, and Applewood. If you offer good food, they will come.
That location really needs good signage in order to stand out. It's easy to forget there's something at that spot, with Tea Lounge blocking anything else out.
Why does Scottadito say "organic selections" under it's awning? It doesn't seem to fit well with what I thought was more of a salumeria-type Italian place. -
