  • I love me some Don Draper.
  • Could it possibly be that sometimes what we want as a fantasy is not something we'd actually want in real life?

That said, I will admit to suggesting to Mister Libertine that he should wear a fedora.
  • Yeah, all you P.C. slopers have acheived total eradication of the male species. Yet, somehow, some of us still respond to a decisive man; a "manly" man. Sorry that you've been cursed at when opening doors for us women who appreciate it; but really, you shouldn't have caved that easily. And Paula, the writer? She's typical of a Park Slope Mom. Take that as you may.

God, this past Sunday's show.... :D
  • You won't catch the Mad Men getting their nails done at the spa. Ugh.
  • She says it best:

"She recalled a recent conversation between her husband and a SAHD of their acquaintance (the men had cooked, of course). “They were talking very intently about something that went on in preschool,” she said. “And I just completely glazed over, went a million miles away in my head. I thought, ‘Jesus, fellas, get a life!’”

By contrast: “Don Draper is a hero. He’s a dreamer.”

Her neighbor, Ms. Bernstein, agreed that there’s substance behind the swoon. “As much as I applaud the fact that we’ve grown more open-minded and there are choices available for women and men, it has certainly made things more complicated,” she said. “When our world is so chaotic, we tend to romanticize a time when men were men and women were women. Certainly, Don Draper is not making his wife very happy, but there is a strength to him. A stability.”

I don't think it could have happened without the agreement of the men in the picture. As a husband who does most of the cooking and posts pictures of the kids on my facebook page, I am quite content. I do, however, also have a good career.

BTW - be careful throwing around terms like typical Park Slope Mom. I know a lot of Park Slope Moms and I find they anything but typical.
  • I agree that not only are Park Slope dads castrated, but they had a part in their own domesticating.

agreed. "Typical" PS women feel "dressed up" in a dress, and "typical" PS men wouldn't know how to take them out of it.
