fasdfoiasufsvlkasdkjhfiasdfu bedbugs!!!!!

okay, so i think i have bedbugs and i am sick about it, having heard the horror stories of valiant-but-futile, months-long attempts to get rid of the parasitic ba$tard$. Can anyone recommend a GREAT exterminator in our neighborhood, ideally one who can not only inspect and fumigate/spray but also kindly, gently, sympathetically walk me through the (doubtless) innumerable tasks i have ahead of me in my quest to extricate the heartless buggers from my apt and life?

thanks!!!!!

  • trash the furniture you suspect is infected

    go to the doctor
  • you don't need to go to the doctor... he/she can't do anything about bedbugs. it's not like you are infested, your bed or room is. get rid of all the linens, look at the seams of your mattress with a fine tooth comb. if your mattress is clean you should be able to find where the bedbugs are resting during the day (the tend to come out at night). douse these areas with 90% rubbing alcohol which should kill them. when i had them they were actually living in cracks in the parquette floor so i had to mop with alcohol. you should probably just get rid of the mattress and make sure you've inspected every little crack and seam anywhere near your bed.
  • yikes best of luck to ya with that. my ex had a horrible bed bug problem in her old apartment, several visits from the exterminators unfortunately weren't enough to relieve the problem, since it was the entire building. she ended up having to break her lease and move out because the only thing not infested was crappy futon in her living room where she ended up sleeping for 3 months.
  • thanks for the tips, CarltonBanks. alcohol won't strip the finish on the wood floor will it?

I am afraid to get a new bed if the jerks will just re-infest the new bed...

o god i want to crawl into bed and hide....yet that is the worst hiding place in this case.
  • bedbugs end friendships. as a tip, try to avoid buying used furniture as bedbugs can hide in the nooks & crannies
  • it didn't strip my floor but i can't vouch for yours. i'll take a messed up floor over the sleepless nights of paranoia and itching that comes with bedbugs.
  • i subleted an apartment that had bed bugs... oh my!

the good news is that they're gross, but harmless. it's like a mosquito that crawls, if you will. well, minus the threat of malaria.

but anyway, some decent PDFs that i used...
they recommend sticky glue traps, zippered mattress covers and a slew of other things to get rid of the insects. i suggest you do EVERYTHING and you're gonna have to stay on top of it for awhile.

  • I have a great exterminator who services practically everywhere in nyc.He was kind, educated and effectivelly got rid of my bed bugs problem immediately. He was also very affordable when i compared prices with other companies. He also offers eviromentally safe alternatives which i really didnt know exsisted for this problem. His name is mike and his number is 347-525-7902
  • Listen, before you start freeking out and tossing out your bed. Just call an exterminator and he'll tell you everything you need to do. There is a very informative thread In the PS or PH board last year on Bed Bugs, you might want to do a search. But really, just go to a professional, then do what he says.

    Good luck!
  • bedbugs are common. they are getting on nerves of many all over the world. the health authoritie sare also not taking sufficient care against them
  • check out the bed bug blog: http://bedbugblog.blogspot.com/

it has info on what to do about infestations and also has a list of 'known infestations' so if you're ever moving, you can avoid those buildings and ones nearby!
  • call absolute death pest control.

    thats seriously the name.

It will cost you about $400. They rid me of the little bastards in one visit, but I think that price includes one free follow up visit.
