    nary a clue. I know that asma was a clinton supporter so she, like me, has very little "love" for obama. but we both can't stand mccain more so I'm guessing that's how she'll vote. but she's a fairly liberal muslim from a class and background that I'd assume keeps her from interacting with "joe sixpack" of the muslim community, for lack of a better description. well, perhaps joe the plumber. in any case, her ideas are valid and while she doesn't really _mean_ it, if one candidate were to do something like what she describes, they'd probably get a large chunk of the muslim vote just for giving a shit.

    yeah, i tend to agree, but we do all understand why obama can't do that, right? i mean REALLY -- yes, it's stupid and unfair and voters who wouldn't understand that going to a mosque doesn't mean he's a seekrit agent from bad people come to kill us with funny outfits and socialism and stuff actually get some kind of say in this election, but there you are.

    on the plus side, i did find this http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/aahome on the obama site. yes, i know arab≠muslim, but there is a strong correlation outside of lebanon.

    hard to google much bc once you put "obama" and "muslim" into a search string, it's pretty obvious why he's not doing many mosque appearances.

    found nothing on mccain except another pastor he claimed connection to saying that islam was the antichrist, come to destroy the world.

    oh, and that whole, "he's not an arab; he's a decentman" thing.

    my gut feeling is that mccain knows he's screwed if he loses the racist vote. so no mosques for him. and palin is a wee lil bit teh racist herself, but maybe that's only about "arctic arabs", aka, "fucking eskimos".

    i just realized that my last post could be read as "obama can't afford to lose the racist vote, either".

    in a sad way, that's true -- it's not the altogether racist vote, but the stupidly islamophobic vote. it is a stupid part of the electorate, but not a small one, thanks to assholes like this guy.

    but i would like to distinguish between the fairly large numbers of people who have been driven to fear obama bc of race and islam as a proxy for un-whiteness, and the fairly small number of people who would turn against mccain for making any gesture towards arab/islam. since no one thinks mccain is a fifth columnist in that way, only people who truly think every arab should be in guantanamo (or eqiuv.) would be too pissed to vote for him.

    that's the "racist vote" i was referring to above, that mccain can't risk losing.

    maybe, then, obama should send his running mate? the obvi "white guy", ya know? and considering how many boos palin got at a freaking hokey game, she really has zero business politicking on mccain's behalf. she should get a perm or something so she stops looking just like tina fay.
