Putnam apartment
Hi, I'm planning on moving into a house with a friend on Putnam and Throop. I am a female in my 20's and my main concern is safety in this neighborhood walking home from the subway as its a good 10 minute walk. Can anyone tell me what this neighborhood is like as I'm not that familiar with Brooklyn? Any thoughts, opinions, advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Its a shaddy area. Especially for a 20-something female. You should check out the place at night before making the decision to live there. The only possitive about the area is the low rent...but you get what you pay for.

I have lived on Putnam between Thompkins and Marcy for the past eight years and I have not had a problem. As with any neighborhood, you just have to be alert; especially late at night.
Regarding Flux' comment, he/she probably has never lived or even been in the neighborhood but is making broad statements based on the profile of most of the residents in the area. I am sure Flux lives in a 20X20 box in a more "desirable" neighborhood and eats cereal for dinner every night. Go figure!!! -

Easy on the personal attacks please.

for 4 years, and just moved out in June. I pray that your not moving into our old apartment building. Is it 495 Putnam by any chance? Across the street from the bodega? If so, PM me...BIG problems with that building, which is why we left.
In terms of safety. Im 32, have two kids and a husband. Ive never had any problems there, but then again, I am street smart and really not the "hipster" type at all. I had some great neighborhood people that I spoke to daily. I used to go to all the block parties with my kids. I wouldnt roam around there late at night, or any time after 11pm alone. Nor would I take the subway home after that time either. mind your business and thats all. Dont stare anyone down.
If you have balls to live there, then youll do just fine. Most people are cool. Even the drug dealers on the corner. -
