Time Warner Cable/Phone — Brooklynian

Time Warner Cable/Phone

Does anyone out there use the "triple" Time Warner Cable Servioe (Cable/Internet/Phone)?

They keep calling me with the hard sell and was just wondering if it is worth it? How is the reception? Do you ever have interruptions in your service? I have had the same land line for years and am nervous about giving it up.

What has been your experience with it?

  • Ugh. The second that FIOS comes I'm getting away from Time Warner. I already have their cable tv and internet I won't give them a dime for anything else
  • Yeah, Time Warner is going to be in BIG trouble and they know it. They wanted me to lock in a plan for 2 yrs if I paid like $10 less a month on triple pay.
  • when in the hell is fios coming?
  • When I lived in Manhattan and Queens I used Time Warner for cable, broadband internet and got their phone service. The phone and internet were Earthlink rather than Roadrunner. The internet service was fine. The phone service was crap. The phone would often drop out after a ten minute conversation. Eventually the modem stopped working and I canceled the service. I now rely solely on my cell phone, Skype and 3U telecom that provides a 1800 number that I can call to make international calls more cheaply from my cell phone than using Verizon's international cell rates. If you are happy with your landline service and are not paying an arm and a leg, stay with it. The other thing that you can do is make sure you get the same deal TWC is offering from your phone company. Just ring them up and say that you're thinking of switching, but if they match the deal you'll stay. I don't know whether it will work, but it won't cost you anything to ask.
  • Good advice Bohuma. I am going to give them a call. That was my gut instinct as well.
  • I have the triple play thingy. They do offer roadrunner as well as earthlink, you just have to specify which one you want. I've had them for over three years and very few problems - the phone service has been fine and I've only lost service maybe twice in the time I've had them (when I think everyone lost service, due to storms, etc.). Do I love TWC? Not really but they've served the purpose.
  • I have the triple play with TW and have not had any trouble at all.
  • I am a die hard POTS (plain old telephone service) user and it will be a long time before I give up the reliability and having a phone during power outages
  • +1 for waiting for fios.

I can't wait to leave useless posts 50x faster
  • I have the Triple Play as well, and have for a few years now. No problems whatsoever.
  • I switched to the Triple Play earlier this year because I cannot stand Verizon (used to have DSL from them). I always got my cable TV from Time Warner anyway. Service has been fine-no dropped calls on my phone line at all-though, I have lost general Time Warner service for up to an hour or more at a time, and it is annoying as hell to not have internet or phone at the same time!
  • Subject: Time Warner Cable triple play

Have been using it for about two years, Works really well like the fact that it is unlimited to US, Canada and PR. However if you are uneasy about not having a land line-in case of a power outage your phone will not work, unlike a land line which continues to work.

I've had the triple for 1 one year and a half, and so far, I haven't had any problems.
  • I have the triple play also and its generally fine. Lately, channels have been randomly appearing and disappearing on our new tv and TWC customer service said it was a problem with the tv and not their service. Uhhhh...ok.

Also, last year my internet and phone service was completely out and it took TWC a week to come and fix it. Since I work from home this was a major issue for me and TWC was entirely unapologetic about it.

Other than those two issues, they've been passable for service.

On a funny note, a woman accidentally dialed my home number recently thinking she had reached Time Warner and launched into a lengthy complaint about how she had to wait too long for someone to come to her house and install something or other. I let her go on for a minute or two and then told her I wasn't Time Warner but that I knew her frustration first hand.
  • TWC just called me to try to sell me on their phone service. I have no idea how good it might be and I'll never know because I'm not happy with the the other services I have from them, which I would drop in a hot second if FiOS were here.

I'm actually preparing to send them a letter enumerating my complaints, which include:
    * Periods where the Internet signal will repeatedly drop out for 2 or 3 minutes at a time
    * Instances where Internet signal will drop out for longer periods, requiring a reset of the modem
    * A two-day period where Internet service was extremely slow
    * Occasional instances of TV channels appearing or disappearing at random
    * DVR not functioning properly (i.e. missing shows for which I have series recordings set up or recording repeats of shows I have set to record only new episodes)
    * DVR deciding to reboot itself at random times while I'm trying to watch shows
    * DVR controls not functioning at random times
    * A three-day period where the audio wasn't working on NY1 (but was working on all other channels)

I've had to call them repeatedly about these things; sometimes they're helpful and do noodly things to my modem or DVR while I'm on the phone with them that fix the issue, at least for a while, and sometimes they blame it on me or tell me to wait a while. The letter may not help anything, but if it doesn't, then they don't get my money anymore. They're certainly not getting MORE money from me for a service I wouldn't even use (I'm dropping my land line because I pretty much only use my cell phone anymore and the only people who ever call my land line are telemarketers).
