Trick or Treat?

I think the kids hit the street right after school is over. So pretty much 3pm onwards is fair game. Most of the little (cutest) kids are all done by the time it gets dark so get home early if you don't want to miss them.
-
And they'll be doing this on Friday the 31st? Thanks for the reply!
-
as i remember, most kids are trick or treating down on 7th avenue, and there's little activity at private homes. at least around my part of the 'hood.,
-
yes, on the 31st. General rule of thumb is if your house is decorated, they will ring the bell. If not, they pass
-
Yes, on Halloween, the 31st-do they trick or treat on other days in other parts of the country?
Most kids do their trick or treating at the stores on 7th Avenue and now also on 5th Avenue-very few kids ring actual doorbells-even if a house is decorated, I don't have my child ring the bell/bells. What I see people do is sit outside of their house with bowls of candy if they are open to trick or treaters. -
I'm from PA, and in some small towns they do not always have it on the 31st, depending on what day of the week it is mostly or if there's a parade one night.
Thanks everyone! -
Check out the South Slope. Trick or Treaters are abound! Particularly on Windsor, Fuller, Howard, 16th St. Its a great day for these kids.

Windsor Terrace is ground zero for trick or treating. Right after school is a little early...I would say 4pm on....

These days it seems most kids don’t ring door bells anymore. sometimes adults are sitting on their stoop giving candy and the kids gladly take it, but it’s rare for kids to actually ring doorbells.
and be sure not to miss the annual 7th ave Halloween parade. It usually starts at I think 7:00, right? -
Put on a sign - trick-or-treaters welcome!

The Park Slope Parade is another huge event and even bigger this year with large scale puppets built by Park Slope Parents' Puppet Team. There will also be a costume contest preceding the Parade. Parade will start at 7th Avenue and 12th Street and proceed to 7th Avenue and Union Street. Participants may join the parade at any point along this route. When: Friday, October 31st Parade begins at 6:30pm and ends at 9:00. -

How odd, I have never heard of that. Seems to me a holiday should be on the holiday, but, I am kind of a stickler for that stuff. I would suggest sitting outside with a big bowl of candy if you want.
Thanks everyone! -
Believe me, if you sit outside with a bowl of candy they will come. Just make sure you have enough candy - Our first year in Park Slope, I was in shock at how many trick or treaters there were, and how many bags of candy it's possible to go through. It depends on the block of course, but figure that if a lot of the houses on your block have decorations up, or if you're in center slope near 7th ave., then def. expect some trick or treating action.
I find that trick or treating on side streets starts a little closer to 4:30-5pm, since kids have to go home and change into costume, also most people giving treats have to get home from work. My kids figured out long ago that the side streets give out better candy than most of the stores on 7th ave. (but they do like those orange bagels from Bagel Delight...) -
^^Very true about the side streets giving out better stuff. We go to certain streets all the time because we know that is where the good treats are!

When first moved here there were lots of kids on my block.
so
i went out and bought like FIVE 1 lb bags of candy for halloween.
My wife (then gf) and i had only moved in a couple weeks before.
We were all excited about being the "adults" and wanted to be well prepared for all the little kids ...
No one rang the bell. NO ONE.
I was still working off the extra weight the following spring ....
Lesson learned.
sit on the stoop with candy or prepare to join a gym
