Missing Brooklyn Nabes?
Howdy,
Marine Park, Old Mill Basin, Mill Basin, Flatlands, Canarsie, Gerritsen Beach, Starrett City, Brownsville, Bath Beach, Gravesend, etc.
Actually Wikipedia has a pretty accurate & inclusive list of Brooklyn nabes so how does one lobby to have them added to the "Neighborhoods" tab on this site?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Brooklyn,_New_York_neighborhoods
FWIW, I did a search but didn't find other topics on this or an FAQ sticky or whatever. One of the reasons I'm asking is that I'm a 58 yr old resident of Brooklyn who was born in Flatbush, grew up in Marine Park, got married & moved back to Flatbush briefly, moved to Flatlands briefly and then settled in Old Mill Basin to raise my family. I have friends from Gerritsen Beach and I've worked all over the borough for the gas company in places like Canarsie, Bath Beach, etc..

perhaps Daily Heights (board owner) will chime in on this, but for a start...
one reason those boards don't exist is because there hasn't been much demand for them -- understandably, since this whole site grew out of local Prospect Heights discussion. we've added boards in the past as activity in the board devoted to the neighboring area seemed to merit. For instance, the Gowanus board was created when there was so much Gowanu (ooo...typo, but i like it) conversation on the Park Slope board that it seemed we might have developed critical mass in that area.
our "presence" in the areas you mention doesn't seem -- to me -- strong enough yet to merit those new boards. a board with nothing on it is SAD. however, you could post in brooklyn & beyond or in one of the south brooklyn boards that is close-ish. if you get some followers, that would be groovy. -
Don't forget East New York and New Lots.
Let's have some news about those forgotten places, please! -
The Brooklyn Back When board was added when that discussion/population exploded on this board. Might be what you're looking for . . .

It would be excellent if there were enough interested current residents of Gravesend or New Lots or wherever to populate a new board. As Sweet Tea said, whenever something reaches critical mass, a new board comes together. -
I must confess that it bothers the heck out of me that so few people post on this forum!
Brooklyn is a city of over 3 million people. Millions more have lived there and moved out like I did many years ago. For a city with so many people, why is there so little interest in discussing its history and its current events?
I just don't get it.
Howdy, Stranger!
