I love the Steinhof. I love $6 goulash night, (formerly $5 goulash night) I love kostrizter black. I love their apple bread pudding.

But.

I was so annoyed by the ineptitude of the service last night that I just had to post something.

Last night they just sucked at simple shit like clearing off empty plates, dropping checks, cleaning tables once customers left, to the extent that it was about half an hour wait from the time we entered until our order was taken. For the entire time we were looking at several tables with stacks of empty plates.

They needed more staff working last night. One waitress, one hostess, and one manager type guy was clearly not getting it done.

The goulash was probably the best I've ever tasted from there though. SO that was good. But hire a bus boy dammit.

    I love Steinhof. Maybe it was just an off night - too many people called in sick or something. It's too bad the service was sucky. I'd say give it another shot and see if it's a pattern

    I love love love steinhof. Its one of my fave places in the hood and, frankly,in the city. It must have been an off night, I will defend it to the death.

    Whoah, i was there last nite too. I was sitting at the bar though. Rob the bartender was working really hard but i didn't see who was waitressing.

    Service can sometimes be an issue when you're sitting at the tables, but i pretend i'm in Europe and then it doesnt seem so bad.

    huh. I only went once and didn't love it. the bubbly was average (shit list) and the food everyone in my party ate - and we've all had this type of food before - was simplistic, and, well average. especially for the price. haven't been back. I found the experience forgettable.

    give it another shot. especially during happy hour on monday. $6 goulash and a $3 beer.

    I'm down with their cheese spaetzle + side salad. Perfect.

    I'm in love with their fresh cod and summer vegetable chowder, their farmers pan for brunch, and the steamed tomato/garlic mussels. Vegetable ravioli is also quite good...

    service was way better for goulash night last night. They had a second server come on around 730. also, the place must have been unusually slammed when I first posted, there was a somewhat lighter crowd last night.

    the goulash was still delicious.
