Bar to watch election returns?
Comments

I am SURE every bar, living room, and anywhere else that has a TV will have the election results on.
-
pacific standard at 4th & st marks has a good setup for this. they have a couple of tvs in the back room that should be set to the news channels (at least they were when i went there during the primaries).
-
Pacific Standard is pre-selling $10 tickets to get in on election night, but that includes a free beer. They expect a packed house. In addition to the TVs in the back room, they also have a projector in the front.
I think Union Hall (Union & 5th Ave) and Bell House (3rd Ave & 9th St) are also have election watch parties. -
Drinking on election night, great idea if only most people weren't going to be crying when McCain wins. Damn you Bush, you stole another election.
-
Probably the same places people ask each and every time there was a debate on. Do a search.
-
Good idea. We'll either all be giddy and wanting to celebrate, or needing a double.
-
Stupid question... but about what time to results really start to come in?
-
They start to trickle in around 8-9 when the first polls close and come in more regularly after 10.

Black Sheep Pub at Bergen and 5th, behind Cafe Tapeo.

The Bell House is showing it on 2 big screens and the Red Hook taco vendors (including the ones selling my beloved huarache) will be there selling tacos. I just found out and have proclaimed this as the greatest minute of my week thus far.

I just found out too, I'm so there! -

Not a stupid question. No states can be declared until after the polls close in all 50. News organizations respect that, and will only be giving exit poll figures until then.
The first states start to be declared about 11pm.
It's going to be a long, long night. -
a long night full of tacos.

That sounds heavenly (red hook huarache... droolfest), where's Bell House located? -
its more in gowanus than slope, but walkable. 7th street between 2nd & 3rd aves.
-
fine by me, i dont live in the slope. and thats nice and close to the Smith-9th G. I may have to assemble an entourage of sorts... i feel the vendors will be a big selling point.

It's going to be a long, long night.
but some parts of alaska don't close until 1 am (eastern). so does that mean no news until 1??
-
I know they don't give final exit poll figures, but they usually make a guess based on numbers coming in thus far from key districts and call it when it gets close, right?
PS: That must be the all-important part of Alaska where you can see Russia! -
Are you sure about that all 50 thing? I thought that was a state by state 'don't declare until everyone has voted' thing.
But I may misremember....
but I recall them starting in with the Precincts Reporting info as soon as polls close. Only it's only 7% reporting or something teeny like that. -

Actually, IIRC they don't call an individual state until the polls close...However, generally a presidential candidate doesn't concede until most, if not all, states polls close to avoid hurting down-ticket candidates... -
It might be called before 11pm since the west coast electoral votes are sure to go to Obama. If O has picked up enough battleground states a win can be projected.
-
OMG did any of you guys go to The Bell House? Luckily I had a table along the back wall - there must have been 700+ people there! It was really great being part of a huge deafening roar of celebration with so many people when everything went down.
Howdy, Stranger!
