Where my CH voters at?
Happy (fingers-crossed) Election Day!
My lovely Crown Heightsters-
Have you voted yet today? How were the lines? Do we still have the old-fashioned machines or have we been "fortunate" enough to have the computers? Any bake sales? (this one's in reference to PS bake sale)

Yes, I voted.
I was at the polls (elementary school at 760 Prospect Place) at 6:10 this morning. A line of about 45 people was out the door, spilling into the street. And even more -- hundreds -- in the auditorium. It took me a little over an hour to vote. But hopefully the wait will not discourage voters. There was a great vibe and energy. People were smiling. Everyone seemed perfectly willing to wait the relatively short time to stake their claim in making history.
Yes, the booth was the old-school red lever system.
I did not notice any bake sales. -
The line from PS 22 was gradually moving up Classon shortly after six when the doors opened. I wonder if the lines remain throughout the day.
-
Just voted not long ago at the same school. It was pretty packed but I didn't have to wait an hour. At this point though most people are off to work so I guess I'm lucky that way in my schedule. So how's everyone planning on waiting for the results tonight? I'm thinking winding down with a lot of booze at the Gate or Frankling Park, hopefully an Obama victory drunk intead of a drowning my sorrows drunk.

Also, just to reiterate some advise I saw posted elsewhere ...
It definitely helps if you know the election district that you are in. At first a bunch of us were waiting on one long feeder line, but then one of the volunteers told us that if we had our voter card or we knew our district, we could go right to our respective lines. The district lines were still pretty long, but it helped speed things up not having to wait on the info/feeder line first. -

Whatchuwant , I'm pretty sure you and I go to the same place to vote. If not , than that just don't make sense.
The lines were long and slow at first . My husband predicted that we would get out at 9am. He suggested that we go home and come back at 3pm. I was like "no way! we're here so lets just get it over with". After that the lines started moving pretty damn quick. The problem was that some people didn't know their district # and they would get to the table and the workers would be looking and looking for their names on the list , and that's why the lines weren't moving for a while.
It seemed like everyone already knew who they were voting for. It was like in , "clank clank" , BAM! They're out. Next!
We didn't have bake sales. We had metal detectors , though. But , they weren't turned on. I didn't know. I took off my sweater jacket and threw it over the belt thingy and onto the table (cuz it wasn't moving -you'd think that would have told me "duh , belt not on , no security guard standing there-hello??") and yet I still walked through hoping that I wouldn't beep beep. I haven't slept yet. I OD'ed on caffeine all night to make sure we got there at 6am. I'm serious. I was talking to my husband and I thought he was listening to me and then I looked over and he's knocked out on the couch. Now I wanna go out and do some laundry , run to the grocery store and pick up a few things. I'm rambling on and on , I can't stop typing. DAMN!!
I can't wait to find out the results. :bounce:

Clara Barton HS, right Em?
The schools are closed today, right?
I usually never have a problem or a wait. I'm the first booth when you walk into the auditorium, and usually the roster is opened up to the page with my name on it. So easy. But I AM hoping that there will be a wait, only to see that people are REALLY coming out this time to vote. Not like last time- very disappointed. -
Clara Barton HS - Yup!
School closed , yes.
NOW STOP..............
OBAMA TIME! "Oo-e-oo-ooo-e-o" -
I was at my polling place at 6:30am. There were anywhere from 200-300 people waiting on various lines. It took us about 45 minutes to get through, just because there were voting machines at the front and back of the auditorium and no good system for figuring out your line and getting on it. I was in line with my next door neighbor and the woman who I see walking her pug on my block all the time. We had a good time and it was a pretty chill and relaxed vibe. Saw a lot of neighbors and regulars from the neighborhood.
My only complaint was there were few younger (18-25) voters. Don't know if they just aren't up and moving at that time, but it was clear that at least at my polling place they were a minority of the voters. -
Cute.
I'm going with "Barack it. Don't Stop It".

Yea, that is so frustrating! Don't they realize the power they have with the size of them? I was watching the end of the Daily Show last night and Jon Stewart was very emphatic, telling YOUNG people to get out and vote ("for a change...prove yourselves").

I was on line around the same time-- our wait was long-- but worth it. I felt like there were people of all ages waiting on line to vote.
The little old ladies with canes waiting on line to vote-- made me tear up. It's a beautiful thing-- one of the poll workers at PS 22 said she'd been working elections since 1999 and never saw the lines that long.
Also-- the district stuff was a bit confusing as no one knew what district they were in. -
also, I didn't notice this. But one of my friends said that under the Independent Party McCain and Palin were listed....
I have a picture here:

I'm guessing they voted/will vote later. When I went there were people of all ages. A lot of people too are going to request some time off from work and thus not go in the early, early morning.

760 Prospect Place. Voted at around noon and knew my district, so I didn't have to wait in a long line. Only took 15 minutes! Gobama!

My consersation with my 5 year old son last night. Me --"We must wake up much earlier tomorrow because mommy has to vote before she goes to work." My son -- "you gonna vote for Rock Obama." Me--"yes, of course. I just hope they don't try to steal it." My son-- "Who's gonna steal it mommy, the moron." This is a true story. Out of the mouths of babes. I need to watch what I say around him.

I had to drive a few senior citizens this morning to vote and one of the ladies, who was 83 years was all dressed up, had her hair done and her good peals on. I was joking with her and told her we are going to vote not find a rich man. She said that because of her age and difficulty moving around she has voted absentee ballot for the last 8 years. She felt that this election was too historical not to personally pull the lever and look good doing it. It was funny because all five of the women I took were over 75 years old and they all said "not even Kennedy had this much of a turnout". It was great history lesson driving there and back with them.

just shy of 2 hours at ps22 (for ed 33 -- others districts not as long). got in line around 11, thinking i'd miss the early crowds.
the woman behind me in line said she's been voting there 30 years and never seen such a line. BUT she also said they used to have lots more machines.
still, exciting times. -
Yeah, at ps 22 the wait was a little under 2 hours when I got in line at 8:30, even though I got to speed ahead to ED 23.
It was fun, though. Met a lot of people. And also heard a lot about them dropping in on their neighbors, particularly those who are older, to help anyone get to the polls who might not be able to make it there on their own. Something to think about, if you know anyone who doesn't get outside much. -
Ouch - AFTER waiting in line for an hour at the wrong voting site (ugh - long story) we went to PS22 and we were through in about an hour. We got in line at about 7am.
-
i posted on the pheights board as well, but i voted at ps22 for the 37th district around 1pm and was in and out in under 5 minutes. i pretty much SKIPPED back home around the corner.
-
on the ph board, they are talking about how we were supposed to receive a card after voting. i didn't get one at ps 22, but i am not about to start doubting the process. did anyone at ps 22 get a voting card?
-
There's no card. In all my years of voting- you go in, find your name on the list, sign it, go to the booth, do your thang, and leave. This is simple, folks!
-
there is a card, but you don't get to keep it. the poll worker fills it out when you give your name and sign that book. usually, you never even touch it, but i suppose some places might have you carry it over to another station or something.
-
PS 138 voter here. Went in about 8 was out by 9. After signing the book we got a card and gave it to the person who opened the booth curtain.
I saw a mix of people on line. A bunch of the people at work voted early and but the greater amount didn't so don't expect these lines to get any shorter!
Happy voting! -
Did anyone vote at the Community Center at New York and Carroll and New York? How were the lines?
And I can't speak for other mid-20's voters, but I am voting after work tonight. Maybe we'd just rather stand in the cold, dark evening than drag our butts out of bed an hour early. That's my feeling anyway.
GOBAMA! -
Um, scratch one of those "New York"s obviously...
I am delirious with anticipation. -
Busting. Anybody else at Clara Barton? Getting ready to bounce and head straight there....but I may put more comfortable shoes on....
