Female Kitten Wanted!

I am posting for my lovely neighbor, Otis. He's lived on Washington Ave for over 45 years. Otis asked me yesterday if I knew of any free/small fee female kittens looking for a home, he wants one. I can personally vouch for him as a responsible, caring person. He's always owned cats, and has everything he needs to care for it except the actual cat right now.

Anyone? Please IM me and I'll get back to you ASAP. I'd love to pick one up for him as a New Years present.

    Trying to find one in the 'hood first. Rather help out neighbors 2 times, than only once. :D Also, I have no intention of giving my resume, etc. to some stranger on CL in order to get a kitten for someone else. At least you all know me. And Otis is an active, elder gentleman without a computer.

    If you end up not being able to find one in the neighborhood, I recommend Robert, the animal rescue guy in the East Village who often posts on Craigslist. He's just this kind, somewhat oddball guy who loves animals and runs his own rescue operation in the back of his screenprinting shop; he works with the Humane Society to make sure all the animals he gives away have been checked out by a vet, spayed or neutered, and given all their shots. I got one of my cats from him a couple of years ago. He does charge a small adoption fee to cover the medical expenses (I think it was $30). Anyway, he's really nice and I got a wonderful, affectionate kitten from him. His number is 212-614-9653.

    I got my cat on Valentine's Day two years ago in Prospect Park at an adoption event held by the Humane Society (or a similar organization). The fee was less than $100, and the cat had all its shots and was healthy. If you call the park, you likely can find out if they do that regularly. Even though that was in February, they likely have rescued kitties available all the time.
    I have about a million cute pictures of my cat if you like. Here's one (she's at the bottom of the bed):

    Thanks James, but since it's a present, I'd rather not spend $100. on it, if possible! She's a cutie, though, and obviously worth every penny!!

    In the unlikely event that no kittens show up locally, petfinder.com is a great place for adoptions.
    And you get to see a picture . . .
    you know, to sort out all the unattractive pets.

    I've pm'd sje, but as one of your friendly neighborhood crazy cat rescue ladies, I wanted to let people know that they should feel free to pm me if they're ever looking for kittens/cats; we find them fairly often.

    BARC (Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition) in Williamsburg (www.barcshelter.org) is an excellent, progressive no-kill animal shelter, which always has a good selection of cats and dogs for adoption. I believe kittens are especially plentiful in early spring, but check with them. We got two kittens there five years ago who have turned into fabulous cats, for whatever that's worth. (OK, they're lazy as hell, but I don't blame BARC for that.)

    Ok, please note, I am aware of ALL of these other options, thanks anyway! I'm trying to get one locally FIRST, for instance my cat came from a box of free kittens some kids were taking around, she was the last one. SO sure, I could go to any number of rescue agencies, but please, if you know of any in PH, ideally from someone who took in a pregnant cat or rescued some wild ones, let me know. That would be really nice. I would like to reduce one cat and add one cat in my neighborhood. I like pure local action. THANK YOU! :)

    Can't they do aerial spraying for hipsters on that place?

    Alas, no females available from the batch that my wife and I have raised, but Tiger is now available...

    do you think he'd take two?
    often they are avail in pairs and then they have feline company.

    i found having two cats was just as 'easy' as having one and then they have company plus you don't have to separate them.

    Just to add to that Cat - I went to adopt one kitten and wound up with two and it was the best thing I could have done especially since they are home alone during the day. I actually think it is easier than having one.

    I can certainly ask. I'm telling you, it's not as easy as you think. I've been emailing people on craig's list, and not even getting replies. People are definitely taking them, which of course is good.

    An update: Today I picked up a sweet little 8 week old, healthy kitty from a lovely soul who found her at Washington and Gates, wandering freely, took her in to get checked up and her first round of shots, and presented her to me with food, dishes, even a toy. She would not accept a fee of any kind from me.

    Kitty has been turned over to my tearfully happy neighbor, and I feel pretty good, too. Mission Accomplished! Thanks all, for the suggestions. This one did come from Craig's List.
