Up and coming in Crown Heights...
Hi everybody. I'm new to the site but starting my second year in Crown Heights (so far, so good!). Just thought I'd share a bit of good news, to help keep the post-election glow going:
Despite the crappy economy, there's a new restaurant/bar/cafe? opening up on Kingston, btw Dean and Brooklyn! (The door's only partially covered, so you can peek in and just make out a long, polished counter on the left.) "Mike & Jeff's" has been in the works for a while, but in the past week they've put up and taken down a help-wanted sign so it shouldn't be too long now. Not sure exactly what they'll be serving up, as my neighbor tells me the kitchen space is just a little bigger than his foyer...but with winter coming, who cares? I'm just happy at the prospect of having a sit-down place (e.g., no fluorescent lights) around the corner.
More good news, for other thrifty types: a flea market is coming to Fulton St, near the Super Foodtown in the Brooklyn St plaza. The lot is lined with maybe two dozen stalls that were empty last time I checked, and if you're interested in setting up a table for your crafts/whatnot, there was a man holding down a registration table in front last week... Anyone know more about this?
