Brown stinky tap water? 11/13
Comments

Ah! I got it over on Carroll between 5th & 6th this evening - they must've been up to something with the pipes.
-
Several of my neighbors on 2nd Street between 6th and 7th are complaining about discolored water.

YES. Brown water here in Park Slope on 11/13/08! WTF? Yesterday, friends in Sunset Park complained that they had brown water too. What's uP?
:x :x :?: :?: -
Where?

Has anyone accidently drank any? Do you think it might be a health hazard? Even after the water cleared, it had a funky taste. Did not drink or cook with it.

Today, I saw weird water in my toilet bowl and thought someone forgot to flush it, but no matter how many times I flushed it, it was brown. I was away all day and am now drinking bottled water. -
Same thing here yesterday and still this morning (President/7th). We just called 311 and they said it has something to do with the current switching over to a new water delivery system. Call 311 for more info. but they did say it was safe to drink (just sediment), but to let it stand to let the sediment settle. However, I am not taking any chances (and don't want anyone trusting 100% that what they told me is absolute truth!) and am going to be drinking bottled water for at least a few days or until I hear more information on this!

This is what is on the DEP site:
Service Advisory
Because of scheduled water system operations conducted by the Department of Environmental Protection, the Croton Water Supply has been activated and is delivering water to specific areas throughout New York City. Residents may have discolored tap water due to shifting sediments in the water main as portions of the distribution system are activated. This water is safe to drink and does not require boiling, but washing clothes with discolored water may tint or stain garments. If sediment is present in the water, let it settle before drinking. -
Thanks for posting that. I opted not to dip my kid into a murky watered tub last night.

You're welcome
Hope this clears up soon!! 8) -
Thank goodness for that service advisory. I thought my toilet backed up again. With my new fiberous diet, I'm always stuffing up my toilet.

LOL Im a sloper! At least it is now clearing up! Our water was finally back to normal yesterday (Sat.) morning

I'm pretty sure it's safe to drink. Actually, I heard that the city is having a minor water crisis... so, they're recycling the water from hot dog carts each day.
Yeah, and Park Slope is the frst test area.. -
