ghostbusters car in park slope?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
most park slopers will know what i’m talking about. there’s this exterminators car I always see parked in park slope that looks exactly the same as the ghostbusters car except painted a little differently. I’ve been seeing this car around park slope since the mid 1980’s. some people said it actually is the same car used in the movie ghostbusters. now people say they doubt it because they doubt the actual car from the movie is still running, but i know this car has been running since the time the movie was out.

does anyone know if it really is the same car?

  • Has it really been around for that long?

I remember seeing it myself from around the mid-90's. The same guy who owned that used to own a huge brown "dualie" pickup truck with cages in the back that stunk like dead rodents and had stickers all over it warning people to stay away.

As for it being the Ghostbusters car, wasn't that car (and the one in PS) what a lot of ambulances used to look like way back? I'm sure it can't be that rare.
  • Theres stickers all over the ghostbusters car telling people to stay away as well. I think the owner lives near the park, thats usually where I see it parked.
  • In all my years seeing this car and parking next to it, I have never seen the owner. He's a myth.
  • he's not a myth. he lives on my street, where he parks both of his cars: the ambulance and the truck. he's an exterminator, of sorts. he gets rid of pests. he's also a really, really nice guy and down to earth. not the freaky guy you'd think someone with that car and that job would be.
  • i see it on 12 st and 8th ave quite often.
  • Subject: Ambulance Rodent Car

Believe it or not the car belongs to a Middle School Math Teacher who also moonlights as an exterminator for wild animals. I know this because my daughter had him in Middle School. As for the origins of the car as belonging to Ghostbusters, that I don't know.
  • that car makes me smile every time I see it.
  • it is not the ghostbusters car, but it was obviously made to resemble it. The actual car has been sold a few times, most recently, here:

I saw the actual one in Vegas last week, it had NY plates. FWIW. Which would make it historically accurate and all. I didn't notice if the tags were current, though.

Dunno about the Ebay one, but the Sony decked out one for the 25th anniversary of the movie. I seem to remember that there were a two or three of them made, FWIW. This one was seriously pumping out the jams and stuff, mon. What was cooler was the afterburner "wave-runner" next to it though, that thing was insane... Anyway.
