Give me a good vodka

A great value vodka is Tito's.

They sell it at Mei Chi on Flatbush. -
I'm a Grey Goose guy as well but recently had a tasting of several vodkas I'd never tried. The winners in my book were Armadale (surprisingly from Scotland of all places) and Chopin from Poland. Both very good.
-
Is there suck a thing as bad vodka? Ok, maybe there is.
I do love me some Kettel One. Mmmmmm. For martinis.
For mixed drinks I favor Stoli.
Both are cheaper than Absolute and Grey Goose.
For parties and weekend binges, Smirnoff is totally fine and incredible affordable. -
Thanks for the tips guys. i don't like Smirnoff at all and used to love Stoli before drinking Grey Goose. Might try Ketel One and am definitely going to try Tito's-I love that it is distilled 6 times!
As for Armadale, what sort of price range is that? -
I like Ketel One as well. Both Armadale and Chopin are very similar to Grey Goose in cost.
-
Bah - just noticed my typo. As in I want to SUCK down three huge martinis RIGHT NOW AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGH.
Ahem. And now back to work.
Did you ever have Level? We liked it in juices. There are so many kinds out there. Tell ya what. You buy a liter, try it, and if you don't like it, I am generously offering to take the rest off your hands. -
How generous of you!

We drink Svedka all the time. It gets rave reviews and at $26 for a 1.75 L bottle, it's a really good deal.
-
grey goose is awful. they add glycerin to it to provide that "smooth taste"
you are better off with stoli or ket one if you want vodka. Or you can have the original flavored vodka, gin. -
svedka is really, really good. and cheap.. had titos and liked it
i'm always an absolute fan, and the one that's absolut pear is yummy
smirnoff and stoli are too harsh. skyy is ok -
I remember reading a taste test of vodkas and the cheap vodka, ran through a brita filter 6 times placed high, though maybe not the top
-
Shakers Vodka.
Look it up. -
Shakers - who knew that Minnesota makes a premium vodka. Never tried it but now I will, thanks. Swingin' web site too.
-
STOLICHNAYA. Russian vodka. The Mother of all vodkas.

Mythbusters busted this myth. Perhaps for a non-vodka drinker, but for an true vodka lover it doesn't make much of a difference. At least according to the lushes on Mythbusters. -

i saw this, but i think the reaction was pretty good to the filtered vodka--it was high, but cost so much $$ ofter going through so many brita filters that it was cheaper to buy the good vodka -
There's a lot of good vodka out there. I usually use Tito's or Stoli for the everyday stuff. For others... well, the aforementioned Shakers, Ciroc (made from grapes!), Effen (great name, great bottle), Belvedere, Ketel One, etc, etc...
-
I am a big fan of Nemiroff (Ukrainian goodness) and Zubrowka (Polish) is pretty darn good. I know it is cliche, but really, Russia, Ukraine, Poland - there is a reason why the cliche exists. Damn good vodka. There are some other Ukrainian and Russian ones that I have had - super smooth, no problems the next morning - I just can't remember their names, just the bottles.
And Nemiroff has this great honey/pepper vodka...soooo good...
Just saying... -
Got to check out Shakers now too-great tips guys!
-
I just made a delicious cocktail with some Tito's.
Carnivore Cooler
1 oz Tito's vodka
1 oz sake (I used Kurosawa)
splash of West Indian orange bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a piece of orange zest. -
svedka, definitely, for mixed drinks. its my 'workhorse' vodka, and the price is right. i've recently boycotted grey g. it's not even made in france!
for martinis and straight up, my faves are ciroc [it's got a sweetness to it that not everyone will like, but i do, esp in a ultradry martini w olives], chopin, hangar, and ketel. i also really like absolute ruby red. -

^^^^THIS.
It's what all bartenders drink. -
As a true Russian, and an ex-grey-goose fan, I can strongly recommend ZYR.
It is very smooth, has nice delicate aftertaste, distilled and filtered more than any vodka I know. It costs the same as Grey Goose, but you will be happy to pay once you try how good it is. -
Shouldn't this be in Brooklyn Booze under Stuff ?

Well... when I was a barkeep (and to this day) it was my When In Doubt vodka - something good that you can count on being in every bar and better than all of the other also-ran vodkas like Absolut, Smirnoff, etc.
... but it's not the gold standard.
FWIW, most of the bartenders that I know prefer Shakers... but most of the bartenders that I know are in MN, so take it with a grain of salt. -
for taste + price = Svedka
-
i hear dan aykroyd has a new one -- it's in the shape of a crystal skull. or head. it's weird.

I used to only buy Grey Goose for home. Now I buy other vodkas and order Grey Goose when I'm out (because most bars don't carry the vodkas I bring home now).
I like Tito's (about $24.00) but still can't find it in many places (though LeNell sells it). My local wine store turned me onto Sobieski Vodka. $13.99 and tastes great:

He says that he expects the price to go up once it starts to sell more so get it at this price while you can! -
the guy at mei chi turned me on to Iceberg Vodka. I like it. Usually drink Ketel, but it's got a sort of "oily" aftertaste, to me
I like the "story" of tito's...I'll have to try that one.
Howdy, Stranger!
